Finding a Job

So tomorrow marks the 4 month anniversary of me getting laid off. It has been quite challenging to find a new gig.

I was a sales manager for DHL, but got laid off because Dallas didn't need 3 sales managers anymore. It was a blessing and I was ready for it as my boss and I had discussed it early on. I was bored and needed something new.

Well, 4 months later and I still can't find a job. Sure, I've had interviews, so went great and others were straight awful. At the end of the day though, I find myself being pigeon-holed.

"Oh, you need a job in sales with a transportation company."

"No," I say, "I need something different." I am creative, I can execute, I have created products and programs in the past. I want to do more of that."

"Oh, well, you don't have the experience we are looking for this position."

"....................WTF does that mean."

I actually applied for a job about 3 weeks ago where I met all the requirements for the job, and had a response in about 5 mins to my application from this recruiter.

He says, "Why would you apply for a job that your qualifcations don't meet at all?"

I responded, "What do you mean?" I then took all of the bullet point qualifications he outlined in the description and answered each point, noting a section of my resume that covered said point and going into further detail.

He responds again in about 5 minutes, "Oh okay, but we are looking for someone with actual brand management experience."

At this point I think to myself, "If you want someone with 'actual brand management experience' why don't you put that in the ******* job description. Retard."

In the past 4 months my brother and I have started a company. It is great, we are developing the customer base, the product and should have it ready in 6-9 months. SWEET! My issue with this, I'm not making any money doing this...yet!

So I am searching and it sucks. I've found a few good things today and hope they pan out, but finding a job is 10x harder than I thought it would be. My first job out of college was with DHL and I came across the job by pure luck. Now, I am learning the challenge of job searching. Wow!
