Oh dear God...

it is stunning, beautiful and simply cool as hell frozen.
new Star Wars the old republic cinematic trailer is out just some hours ago. while SW-ToR being the only game i am really waiting for (because i am a SW fan obviously ) so i am already hyped a lot, this trailer delivers fantastically, you really should watch it. it can exceed many expectations.
Bioware once again proves that yes, they can pretend to be The player on game dev table and yes, they are coming for WoW subscribers.

http://www.swtor.com/media/trailers/deceived-cinematic-trailer

watch it, i know its still a cinematic prerendered trailer, but the spirit this guys put into the game is unbelievable. for now, Bioware stands on the promises they gave - sw-tor is going to be history based game. might be so much needed fresh air in whole mmorpg market.

cant wait for beta to start.

The TensioN

Tomorrow gonna be the day that might put another milestone in the EU/US rivalry. Yes. we actually might witness iF holding a 30k bill, and some amazing Lusitania pics of Serennia crying.
And also Knitts new excuses about why USA teams are overall better but EUs just got lucky again!

or may be not. US might win, and its gonna be all over GR.

thats not the point of the post, the point is - public opinion holds little value when you are in to gaming in a changing environment.

i am gonna post a list of myths that were widely spread all around internets for past months.
a) rogues are gimped. mutilate nerf destroyed them.
b) RMP sucks
c) hunters are imbalanced
d) so are DKs
e) shamans are competitive healers
f) priests are worst healers in the game right now

so were all those Mings whines about rogues just plain stupid? yes. were those well thought walls of texts about DKs and Hunters zomgimbalancness the truth? may be. on the one side, 2 EU RMPs in grand finals, hell yeah! on the opposite, we MIGHT see the truimph of US DK/H/P tomorrow.
but just imagine if NOT. things are gonna change for ever. Ming will lose credibility.

another thing i wanted to share is - hey, its a first russian player in a world better team, Phenomenon. i dont know the guy personally, but i already like him. first of, he plays good. second. he looks like a fcking daysleeping zombie. i love that kind of people, so i really want to grats him and whole iF team, they deserver it.

on the last note, warriors are mushrooms.

Rogue nerfs

my previous attempt was deleted by admin, probably Ming wants to post first about this.
getting a bit bored, cant really understand why that happened.

discuss.

edit
ok so there should be something more into blog post to make it viable. sure, why not.here is some well thoughtout opinion.

i started playing WOTLK a bit late, leveled my warrior to 80 in early december just to find out i cant play it in arena and have fun (never found fury appealing). one thing in particular that i was very unhappy with is that mutialte rogue could bring my 22k hp with 600 res to 20 percent in a lucky stunlock. so i rerolled DK and now game seems to be much more balanced >.>
i was pretty spectical about blizzard game designers in terms of class balance, but this latests patch seems to be a better one. mutilate nerf is good, and its also good to see they are compensating it with a pve buff.
i havent got myself into other classes changes yet, but my hunter friend recently exploded on vent with comments on removing consumable projectiles.

still no good changes to warriors tho

Russian PVE Dominance

in soviet russia bosses farms you!

or may be they are just killing themselves and giving up loot. because top 2 pve world servers are now russian, namely Свежеватель Душ and Гордунни, both being dominated by horde and alliance respectfully.

tbh, it came by surprise to me, when my old friend Tomiko (aka Dared, he swapped from nelf hunter to draenei with wotlk), officer of Fixed (n1 ruWoW alliance guild), whispered me a couple of days ago - man, we are fighting for world 1st with Свежеватель Душ, check it out. i was browsing wowrankings from time to time, but i never noticed that russian servers are climbing to the top - in fact, they did.
i wonder why? we werent that fast on world firsts, we have like 2 guilds at the bottom of EU top 30, but servers overall have world best progression.

its communism, i am absolutly sure. work hard, work together. the way russia once built its power its now climbing up in the wow pve ranks - dedicated folks working their ass off to make collective progression happen.

hell, i am even proud!

What games are you really waiting for?

In fact, this article was going to be named differently: Why Do You Wait For Starcraft II?
because i wait for it for a single reason, i will tell you at the end of this post.

I am really tired of WoW right now (due to - alas - guild drama) and i actually reviewed some games lately to get in touch with whats going on in the market.

so i put my own hype list i decided to share, and see what are you guys are excited about.

1. AOC. no doubt, this game has potential. Anarchy Online was a solid game that introduced a lot of things that became standards in the industry. So these guys can really put up something interesting, playable and new.
2. Warhammer Online - WoW clone, but it might be a good WoW clone. if it comes out like that - good, i might even buy an account to see does it suits me.
3. Ragnarok Online II. why? because music is written by Yoko Kanno. so this is a must see for me - i love her soundtracks that much.
4. World Of Darkness. Yes, not in this decade. But hell... CCP... VTM setting... geez this can be a bomb.

and finally, why Starcraft II?

DotA. it is going to be remade for it. imagine, new DotA, with an effing new graphics, new cool heroes, abilities, sound effects...

i CANT wait for it.

updated - Why do they shut down Stage6?

UPDATE a good article by techcrunch.com

it really makes sense.
When i've read a post by Aelli here on GR, I, at first, simply didnt believe it.

I just couldnt believe how is it possible - the most popular resource of its kind is being brought down? I was not prepared.
So i went to Stage6 site only to witness it by myself - yes, they are shutting it down on Feb 28.
According to Spinner, the cause of why are they're doing it, is pretty clear - it became to expensive to run. So basically they either should split it to a separate business, or sell. This is absolutely understandable, but here comes the surprise:

They tried hard but failed.

I actually had to reread that a couple of times, because - again - I wasnt prepared to crap like that.
I mean, come on. How it is not possible to sell the best and most used service of its kind? The answer, shamefully, is very simple - they asked a price no one was willing to pay. I bet the story was going like this - some people at DivX - Ok lets make a HighDef service and then sell it for huge money like its been done with YouTube - it was sold for more then 1.5 bil to google, i am scared to imagine the capitalization rate growth of that resource since it was launched.
And i guess, not only me - DivX plan was to make at least the same amount of profit. And I think the price they asked from potential buyers (and of course, i mean no doubt, there were more then 2 of those negotiating) was simply so ridiculous, that they werent finding any deal.

So they decided to keep the rights on the technology but shut down the service (thus cutting down expenses).

Thank you, dear community, you just beta tested our commercial property for free. We now sure it works like a charm and we will gonna wait until market is ready for our crazy proposal and some rich fk will invest that ****loads of money we are sooo waiting for.

Hope you guys had fun, Bye Bye
Your DivX Team.

Well, the question is - what to use now. I got so hooked on high quality streaming

WoW arena, e-sport and random thoughts.

Sup.

First entry, so a bit of introduction. I am from Moscow, Ru. I play
DotA and WoW arena a lot. Used to play Starcraft, then ROC and TFT at
local tourney level. Gaming for over - hmm - 17 years. Kinda old.

We all know that WoW lacks some basics of an e-sport level game.
1st, players dont have immediate access to somehow equal resources. I
mean, to have a 70 level char able to participate on arena at the very
least level, you need to spend ****loads of time leveling and then
gearing your char. Or buy it for money, but thats bad, you can be
banned for that and spend couple of weeks whining about how warriors
are imbalanced after.

We all know why somehow equal starting conditions are important, so lets continue.

Problem is WoW never was designed as a competitive PvP game. At launch
PvP was all about ganking (without any reward) then Honor was
introduced, and finally, Arena. But all those things were actually side
put in the game. It wasnt designed to be what it is at start.

And suddenly i've thought about Guild Wars - a game that was designed
to be a competitive e-sport level game. Ability to create a top level
character just slightly weaker then fully leveled is a gods bless.
First, your team can finally try different setups that might be best
for its playstyle, second, players can try out things before actually
spend loads of time.

So my thought was - why Blizzard wont do the same? allow people to
create a level 70 characters, but with some restrictions. Those
restrictions should help separating those fully grown from
"pregenerated". One of this restriction might be - unable to enter ANY
instance.

This is it, we just separated those who wants to spend 2-3 hours per
day having fun with friends on arena and those who want to play a
MMORPG. we also gave opportunity those last ones to experience PvP from
different angles.

But personally i doubt it will ever happen. difference between
Guildwars and WoW is that first is subscription free and second is not.
So Blizz management thinks (thats my assumption of course) that forcing
people to spend more time leveling actually forcing them to pay for the
game for a longer period of time.
I doubt it strongly. My professional experience (PR and project
management) tells me that right now the company that gives most
services to their customers wins.
