I won't lie. I was pretty much ditching my NFL weekly blog as my fantasy teams were doing ****ty and my Bears were average at best. After going 6-6 I wasn't too thrilled with their odds of making the playoffs. So what happens? The bastards win their next three including an amazing OT thriller and give me hope once again only to collapse week 17. Son of a *****. So this week I am going to step back from the Bears, my lack of fantasy performance and give some Wild Card weekend predictions even though this postseason really doesn't interest me. There really aren't any compelling stories are there? The best stuff is happening with the teams who didn't make it.Â
On with the predictions and point differential:
Arizona over Atlanta (7) - Sorry Mr. Rookie of the Year, experience rules in the playoffs and Kurt Warner has it in spades. Boldin should be playing this week and I like Arizona to take this home. If Turner runs wild then this prediction is likely right out the window.
Miami over Baltimore (3) - My gut says go with the great Defense. But Flacco hasn't been here before just like Ryan above. If Balt. gets carried by their D I will likely be wrong. But Miami has been surprising everyone all season and they just get it done. They have a solid D as well. (gotta have at least one upset...)
Indianapolis over San Diego (10) - Mr. MVP-DirectTV knows what the playoffs are all about. And if you didn't know, this Indy squad has won their last nine games. How about that for a hot streak? Hopefully they haven't peaked too early. San Diego is probably the weakest team in the playoffs besides these bums coming up next...
Philly over Minnesota (14) - Sure this should have my Bears right here avenging their last lost to Minn. The good news is that the Vikings are the worst team in the playoffs and I don't doubt that one bit. Philly's D has been staunch all year and unlike the Vikings they actually "know" playoff football. Sorry Emily, but your Vikings are headed home.Well it isn't all bad writing NFL stuff again. Maybe this will motivate me to pick up my Madden Franchise after all of this season's disappointments.Â
I still can't believe the Broncos fired Shanahan and it may be even more stupid aiming for Bob Stoops.Â
The Lions will probably draft Matt Stafford, but the smart pick is Smith out of Alabama. Land him and make a move to get Derek Anderson or Matt Cassel (after my Bears get their choice of the two).Â
After last years New England drama and Super Bowl upset I think we are a bit spoiled. Nothing is even close to that compelling this year. A Giants repeat? *Yawn* Whining rookies out in Tennessee that don't awards? Peyton vs. Eli? Ya, pretty boring.Â
I like the Steelers and Panthers in the Superbowl. Just saying it now...

First again on another Slapnut's blog!
But honestly I don't see Arizona beating Atlanta after the **** show at new england.
Other than that pretty spot on.
I'm just sad I don't get to see my patriots playing this time of the year with their 11-5 record

Especially considering how SF is in with their record. Â Frustrating.

SF SHOULD have won a few of their games this season. I think the Niners are heading the right direction with Singletary.

Also I don't see cassell going anywhere if Brady isn't 100%.

I don't see NE spending that kind of money to keep him, as they will probably have to franchise him. That is a lot of money to put towards two QBs. Brady should be ok by then.
Arizona's lack of a run game scares me. But if that the receiving core and Warner are in tune I like their chances.

as a staunch advocate of the panthers since the creation of the team, don't bet on them for anything, they always choke.

The have all the makings of a super bowl team:Â
Dominate run game, check
Solid Defense, check
can go down field if need be, check
a good qb, check
That doesn't always mean much, but they don't have many excuses this year

We have all the perfect parts, but we also had the perfect team back in '03 when we choked to the pats. For the last 6 years the panthers have found a way to take themselves out of the playoffs, put themselves back into the running, and then either choke at the last second or in the first two games.
I won't be betting on them anyways :/

I was wondering what happened to your NFL blog, kept me entertained! I don't really care what happens in the playoffs this season after the patriots were robbed and the bucs choked away the #1/2 seed (get to see them in london this year though woooooooooo)
Cards over falcons
ravens over dolphins
chargers over colts
eagles over vikings
As far as fantasy went I won the bg9 one trance had going (although I think everyone quit?) and came 3rd in the other one I was in
Â
hi lethargic! Didn't know you posted on these blogs.
edit: Why would you want anderson or cassel on the bears as well? Orton was playing really well before he got injured with virtually no support outside forte and a horrible D that choked away every lead he got them.

I don't think Orton is the answer. I realize we probably need a star receiver more so than a QB, but Orton cannot throw the ball deep. We were the only NFL team to not complete a pass in the air 30 yards or more. I mean, seriously...
Orton is passable but not the solution. Angelo has already committed to bringing in competition earlier in the week, no clue via trade/FA/draft, but he said it will happen. Personally I hope to see a DB and WR taken early, maybe Percy Harvin in the mid to late 1st if he comes out.Â
Nice on the BG9 win, nothing great to note for me, other than I did put the smack down on Godsmak and beat him in my other league.Â
Forte was the best thing to happen to the Bears all year. W/o it would have been a rough season.

He was looking pretty damn good before the ankle injury though
I guess competition can't hurt but I just don't think cassel or anderson would succeed there considering the supporting cast.
3/3 so far too! Go philly!

Well done on the preds so far.
With a decent receiver I dont see much of an issue. A hell of a RB, solid TE, decent line, what else does he need on offense?

I guess. If they could pick up the benglas WR with the long name or an antonio bryant (bucs better resign him!) to give whoever the QB is someone to throw too they might have the makings of a decent O! Forte and olsen could be pretty scary with an actual WR to draw some attention away from em.

I like ATL, PHI, MIA & SD but we shall see. I picked MIA because they kept NE out of the playoffs (I would have picked BTL but I hate the Ravens).
No NE and no Dallas in playoffs! Man it is going to be a good playoffs! *cheers*
Personally I think it will be NYG and PHI out of the NFC for the division championship and PIT and TEN for AFC but then again I have been a Titans fan since they moved to Nashville and I want to see another PIT/TEN game at home. As far as the superbowl who knows.

As an objective person I think AZ has a pretty good shot at winning since they're at home in a dome.
As an AZ fan I'm pretty sure they're going to blow it in spectacular fashion.

I actually have a slight interest in this cause both the teams that the former AFL players are in made the playoffs. You guys can help me out, Saverio Rocca and Ben Graham. Both are punters.

i think arizona is by far the worst team in the playoffs this year. they havent won a single game out of their conference (which is the worst in the nfl) since very early in the season and almost every competant team they have played recently have **** on them. Minnesota would be a very strong if they had a pro QB, but Gus never was fantastic and is way old and i dont know if tavarius has what it takes to be a good QB in the nfl.
also was at a sports bar with all bears fans last weekend, and was so fun watching them crash and burn vs the texans. go vikes =)
predictions:
vikes over philly
ATL over arizona
colts over chargers
balt over miami

Gus is better than tavarius imho, they should stick him back in. My good friend is a vikes fan and she is constantly giving me **** over this. =/

I have to disagree with Tavarius being worse than Gus. The past few weeks Tavarius has played pretty well. He has only threw 1 pick since getting put back in, was NFC player of the week, and held up fairly well against the Giants defense who was putting A LOT of pressure on him. I'd put the blame on Vikings turnovers which Adrian Peterson has been pretty good at lately.
I also hear dropping a punt in the end zone, picking it up and running it is a smart choice. It's also nice when they punt the ball to you and you catch in in the 10 yard line. Or maybe the time where he actually was going to let it go and it bounced off his leg and it was recovered by the other team. Berrian really needs some work on special teams no wonder the bears got rid of him.
As for the cardinals you need to look at games against people outside the most TERRIBLE division in the nfl. The one where no one has close to a winning record except Arizona. I'd have to say they are by far the worst team in the playoffs. It's tough making the playoffs when the teams in your division have the records 7-9, 4-12, and 2-14. That's six free wins...
