Gold Spammers are curious beasts.  They toil away endlessly, either through manipulating in game economies or endless grinding of high value mobs to stockpile a sufficient amount of currency to deliver to the masses.  For those that have money but no time, they are a godsend.  Vice versa they are a nuisance since many believe there to be a moral standard in video games (read: there isn’t one you *******)

If you’ve ever played an MMO, there’s no doubt you been spammed in some way.  For many readers here, there experience with them is mainly related to WoW.  For myself, I never felt that it was a gigantic problem in WoW and I cold withstand the odd message/mail here and there.  To Blizzard’s credit they have implemented a lot of features to reduce spam; almost to the point where I found it practically non-existent other than the hilarious corpse advertisements in Stormwind.  When I decided I was going to play Aion, I knew that spam was going to be inevitable and I’d just have to buck up and put up with it.  However, what I didn’t expect was the ball-wrenching magnitude of spam that I was about to experience.  If you raged at WoW spam, you’ll probably go and murder someone due to the spamming in this game.

I present Exhibit gAy of what players are experiencing in game.  It only takes no more than 6-10 seconds for the spam at the bottom of that screenshot to be knocked off.  Now, NC Soft did supposedly put in a fix not too long ago where you could not do more than one message in LFG every 30 seconds.  However, this doesn’t seem to be working as seen in Exhibit Aussie.  It’s no wonder you have people raging in forums about NC Soft being in league with the spammers and stuff like this only serves to further convince players.

In the context of Aion goes, I have no idea what they can do to prevent this.   The LFG is a global channel which makes it easily accessable to spammers and the drive that they show to remind me that Kinah has nearly lost half its value per 1M since the launch is pretty questionable as far as marketing goes.  How many people are going to consider buy gold from you if all you do is annoying the **** out of them? (jk azns can’t be reasoned with).  Right now the only reasonable solution I’ve found is when I log on to spend the first 5 min blocking all the bots since GMs are practically non-existent.  Sure, it stinks having to maintain a messy block list but I don't expect NC Soft to actually come up with a long term fix any time soon.

If I had an ounce of drive in my body, I would totally start an online campaign to spam the hell out of the Aion twitter accounts here  here and here) with the exact same **** we’re getting in game but I’m sure that people like the 4chan **** that romp around on Asmo - Siel would be more up to that kind of tom******y.  Until then, have fun grinding and don't wish too many threats on the Chinese race.

lol okay.

let me know when you get tired of world PvP against a faction that falls over at anytime.

aion sucks, its just shiney. the game has been out for 2 years, the arent going to add an arena system, a bg system (they do have a PvE bg right now though!) or any kind of balance act to make the game less zergy.

Enjoy faction based PvP. lolz.

haha did your guild quit when you realised you hadn't done anything in any game ever and were pretty much nothing but a big bag of hot air? :)

i actually decided to not play aion. its too much of a time commitment. i'm a full time student and i work 35+ hours a week (not at Pizza Hut though).

It doesn't really make sense for me to spend a month and a half grinding and then have to schedule my day around fortress events. also, what can you tell me about aions end game? i can't really think of much other than fortress and abyss ganking.

Aions really not that good of a game for being 2 years old. Stop looking at it as new and compare it to WoW's 2 year mark.

A Time sink is a time sink

Aion will still be decent distraction until Icecrown if not Catalycism.  I still think WoW is fantastic but the old girl is showing her age right now.  Aion is extremely flawed in a lot of areas but it's still more interesting then afk hopping in Dalaran.

There might be an end game but noone can experience it because of that ****ty netcode making large battles unable to play for everyone.

How is this any different from any other MMO?  Every game slows down to a crawl when a ton of people are concentrated in an area.

Ever played Lineage II (also from NCSoft), it was okay-ish with hundreds of clients at one spot. Or DAoC? Mass battles happened every day and it was just fine from a performance point of view.

It's actually amazing there's virtually no lag in the massive sieges (server latency that is).  I'm running a pretty high end computer and I have to turn all my GFX down to the bare minimum and I'm still chain crashing in them though.  Not fun but I assume they'll get the memory leak or whatever it is fixed eventually.

Also to OP: /anon -- Doesn't fix the LFG channel obviously but /anon and hiding the channel does enough to not see most of it.  Agreed it's an issue and should be one of their top priorities though.

It's weird, I hardly get tell spam anymore even without using /anon.  On Siel they've pretty much taken over every channel in our zones.

I was surprised by how there was little latency increase in large sieges.  Compared to WoW Wintergrasp or FFXI Besieged it plays well.

I do crash a lot. I'm hoping it's just a video card driver issue or something that will get resolved.

right click, block

not very hard, works really well since most of the spammers are the same people throughout the day

The spam is pretty retarded. If I was ever going to buy gold it would not be from the people who ruin my ingame experience with spam. I'm not sure why they think it's a good way to attract customers. It just pisses me off.

I go /anon and don't use the find group channel (I won't pug anyways) and aren't really bothered by RMT except a mail or two a day.  The bots don't really get to me either.  They're a mild annoyance when they're killing my quest mobs, but I do way more damage than them anyways, so I get credit usually.
