The term "WoW Clone" has inspired thousands of debates but in this case it might be literally a WoW Clone. Let's start with a proper introduction. Alganon is an MMORPG developed by Quest Online and scheduled for release on December '09. Since I have not played the game, I will not be comparing any of the features or classes in the game; however I will point out certain similarities with WoW in the graphical department. Before I continue please read this excerpt taken from Alganon's wikipedia page:
Designed from scratch and based in a uniquely created world, the initial goal in designing Alganon was to provide "Simple Gameplay with Unlimited Growth in a massive world of immersion and interaction".
Is it me or this world looks familiar?

Maybe I am just biased because I play too much World of Warcraft and to be fair I haven't played the game yet. I should look for some videos.
This approach is quite different and it will be very interesting to see how it plays in the future. The last game I thought felt like WoW was Runes of Magic but Alganon easily wins. Who knows, maybe Quest Online can release a copy worthy enough for the Chinese government to approve.
Edit: This blog was written by someone who actually played the game. A quote from the review:
"That key icon on the far left? It's only there because WoW has a keyring with that button. Alganon doesn't have a keyring but they forgot to remove the icon when they copied the UI design."
Check out the talent window comparision.

or maybe it was a different game, sure this is a wow clone, wouldn't know why anyone would clone something as bad as wow. Only thing wow has going for it is smooth animations

maybe because wow has millions of subscribers and earns ****tons of money with it
or well, doesn't really seem like a good reason to me

a clone offers nothign new, so no reason for people to move. WoW is capitalzing on endless grind and super easy gameplay and a socialist world were everyone is next to equal and just thrown gear in their face.
This attracks low skill casual gamers who get to feel they are something etc. but doesn't mean its a good game at all. Just means its a money machine. Now a clone offers no incentive for anyone to move to it so it will have nothign going for it

a) New exciting stuff
b) Better graphics
Some games go for 1 or the other, most try for both.
"A" is hard to do. Once you get too "original", you tend to break the basics that make the game good in the first place.
"B" is pretty much forced with 5+ years of technology, yet WoW's cartoonish style gives him some room since spells can always be upgraded and people aren't looking for the best.
From those trailers/images, this game offers neither.

WoW is by far the best mmo out there atm, its the biggest cash cow sure, but an mmo needs to be sandbox based else its just a glorified grind/coop game with some semi hostilities inbetween.
if you compare wow to how UO was before EA got it and nerfd it that game is still way supirior to wow. and now a days the best mmo is EVE online i must say

eh that first line didn't write what my mind said it should say
let me re phrase "Wow is far from the best mmo out there atm"
is what it should have said, the eve online thing is right on target. Although i still find UO back before going carebear was better

Most MMOs just have some kind of bull**** that make them... not fun. WoW is very smooth and very enjoyable for a long time. Sure you get tired of it but it's a good game. I don't know why everyone tries to call it bad.

hmm.. ye bad is perhaps overstating it, classic was good thats it, they didn't add anything new(exept arenas, but they managed to turn that into a grindfest 2 with having to fix new honor gear each season)
Basicly wow is an exelent co-op game once you've mastered it like all other co-op games they grow dull, that happened a long time ago. Since then the game has become worse by trying to be more and more casual friendly, thus no differenting between what you accompalish as heavily. I believe people should be rewarded for skilletc. and wow more and more rewards for grind rather than skill. thus once you've mastered it its time to let it go.
The thing wow really has going for it is smooth animations and smooth gameplay, just derailing away from mmo's here but if you compare say diablo to sacred, sacreds gameplay is so chunky its not even funny, same goes for chunky mmo's no good at all playing those.

Most of the current WoW players today would not like pre-tram/felucca UO.
Don't think they could deal with losing all their stuff.

stuff is easier to come by as well tough. And what joy is there surviving a gank if dying doesn't matter at all like in wow. In UO you actually had things to loose thus making everything more important and more intense.
That said you are probally right, exept if they took some time to get to know the game, doubt most people would have the spine for that though.
However that doesn't mean that there isn't a big enough potential player base for such a game, for all i care those ppl can just keep grinding in wow (although a game like UO is effectively better for all if there's as wide as possible a range of player types as possible, so that each aspect of the game gets covered)

The thrill of hunting someone/running away from someone in the brit swamps > anything in wow

ye the only good about wow is when everything was new and you had the option to theorycraft what worked best together how mechanics worked and how you could be use everything in conjuctiong with everything else.
now a days everything is exposed on guides and whatnot so even retards "know" what they are supposed to do. there's nothing left to figure out, thus the game is dead

I wonder if Blizz will sue them.
Besides, its good publicity for WoW. Every time people compared a game to WoW since its launch, WoW ended up winning. (sorry Aion fans, you're the next ones to go) In this case, people are litterally making fun of it, so that's good for Blizz.
