My question isn't whether they're acquitting themselves well, it's whether or not they're in the right position.
Being a general manager is an incredibly tough job. Evaluating players and differentiating between luck, skill, bad days, potential, all while evaluating a player's character and personality is a lot of work.
With that in mind, the thing I'm worried about is their relationship with players. The CGS GMs are actually pulling double-duty when we compare them to normal sports. They're both a coach and GM -- they make roster decisions and they have to manage the team itself. They put out fires, joke with their players, and are basically "one of the guys" so to speak.
For me, that puts them in a really tough position when it comes to player evaluation. They're naturally going to develop personal relationships with their players, and we tend to see the positive things about people we like. We see their potential, and we believe they'll reach it. Sometimes we do that to a fault, when there's absolutely no evidence our faith will be rewarded.
Obviously, that would hamper how accurately a GM rates a player.
It's not a foregone conclusion this will happen, but the chances certainly increase the closer the GM gets to his/her players. For the record, I'm not convinced this is a concern for our current franchises. I think they all have the capability to look past personal biases and make a tough decision between what's right for the franchise and what feels right as a human being.
But it's certainly something to consider if we see a couple strange picks, and down the road I hope the CGS has another layer of emotional insulation between the players and the people who directly control their fate as a professional gamer.

I wouldn't be surprised if this draft goes like year one. Maybe there are some fresh faces... maybe not

I understand the concern....hope they make the right choices.
If all teams basically remain the same, how many people will even try next season?

All vaild points.
But let's take it down to the grass roots.
The CGS is a business, the business is funded by sponsors who are advertising to a target market.
To build the CGS and build the market for the sponsors they have to build a fan base.
The fans as in any sport are going to align themselves with their favorite players.
So think of it this way, John Elway of the Broncos didn't do so hot his first year or so.
Now you can't go anywhere in Denver without seeing or hearing something about John Elway.
Everywhere you go someone is wearing a Elway jersey. (BTW I'm not an Elway fan)
What if Denver had dumped him after the 1st season?
This is a bit of a dramatic example but all the same, that is what the CGS is dealing with.
The fans have teams and players that they love and hate.
I believe the nature of comptetition will cause turnover in the ranks, and there is always someone out there who is going to be willing to challenge the person who stands on the top of the hill.
The only thing that can be said about that is if you want to win, if you want to be chosen, you must make it obvious and win BIG.
An example of the need to win BIG can be found in Forza,
Because of the rules with collisions on there is a lot that can happen in the course of the race, and if you are playing 2v2 and using the stratigy of one driver is the blocker for the other driver so they can get out front and run clean, it brings the question of, is the person who is running up front because of a couple of good blocks from his partner a better Forza racer? And because of clearing the way the blocking partner finishs 3rd or 4th, does this mean they are not as good?
So with the idea of winning BIG, based on the stats and reporting seen, so far it looks like the only one who can use the BIG label is Ch0mper.
I belive the best combination for the teams is to build a team that has 1 Driver from GCS PGR3 and 1 New Driver from Forza. This will make the learning curve for both much shorter going into the season and increase the odds for a win.

To use your Football analogy, Does anyone know 5 players on the Miami Dolphins or Arizona Cardinals? Unless your a really big fan I would say no. I'm sure fans of last place teams won't be hurt as much by changes to their teams if it means getting to and possibly winning in the play-offs. I'm sure managers in this situation will choose change over loyalty.

Well Mike, at least as far as the LA franchise is concerned, you were obviously right about this issue.
