As Yiska already hinted, I've quit World of Warcraft since a week now.

This isn't the first time I "quit", yet it's probably the most serious one. I'm actually selling my account to an account-selling website for the relativly cheap price of €150. I know I could easily get more out of it, but I can't be arsed going through the effort of putting up a topic, filtering out hundreds of scammers, etc... So like this, I'm just rid of my account for good & there isn't a way back for me!

Anyhow, after WoW, I first started playing a bit of CS 1.6 again.
Before I got hooked up on WoW, I was actually quite good at 1.6. I used to run a clan with some real-life friends & we were active on some smaller ladders & local tournaments. Not that I was anywhere close to the level of the top players, yet I was able to put up a decent fight.

No worries, I won't force you to endure terrible clips showing how I kill x-amount of retards on some local 1.6 deathmatch server with an awm (sup neilyo). I got bored again pretty fast of 1.6, since there isn't alot to do in the game when you don't have a clan or friends to play with.
After a few gathers (these are like organized wars between 2 teams that are created out of randoms on IRC) & some deathmatching, I was already browsing through my shelf to play something else.

It felt kinda wrong having a beast of a computer and only be playing CS1.6 in 400x300 at the same time. I never liked CS:S, so that wasn't really an option.
HL2 DM is pretty fun, but after killing player no#87 by shoving a toilet into his face, I had it with that too.

Then I suddenly realized that there was a blinking Call of Duty4 logo on my desktop that I hadn't touched in a while. About a year ago I had quit WoW for like 2 months & bought CoD4, yet I never really played the game seriously (mp nor sp).

I popped in the disc & loaded up the singleplayer campaign. Then I realized again why I never completed the singleplayer. I was stuck at one of the first missions, more specificly, the TV-Studio one. I was playing it for the first time on Veteran, which apparantly wasn't a smart idea & got bored because I was stuck there.

Gay kid commentary included. (note: this is not me!)

After watching this clip & still failing terribly, I decided to just to restart the game on a lower difficulty, something I didn't regret at all.

Playing through the whole CoD4SP again was the best gaming experience I've had in years. Sure you won't be able to jerk off over your 2900 rated cleave team or pretend to be afk & watch everybody inspect you in Ironforge. Let me tell you, that nothing I've done in WoW can even come close to the fun I've had playing through the whole SP. The sniper-camouflage mission was so intense & so nice, it's something I'll remember for a very long time for sure.

The only disappointment would be that I completed the whole thing in less than 5 hours, so it only kept me busy for one evening.

The next day I had to go to the store to get my dad a present for his birthday. While I'm browsing through the shelves stuffed with CDs & picking out a Led Zeppelin album for him, I can't help but to throw a short glance towards the gaming part of the store.

Between World of Warcraft, World of Warcraft Battle Chest, World of Warcraft Game-cards & World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King boxes, I managed to discover that there still exist a few other games. I was checking all games & thinking to myself: Far Cry 2 (first one was yawn, cba with this), Spore (do I really want to play this crap?) & then I notice F.E.A.R. 2. Now I havn't read any gaming-magazines lately, so I was quite unbiased when picking this game.
I played the first F.E.A.R. a while ago & enjoyed it alot. So I thought, to hell with it & since the game would only cost me 25, I just bought it.

I come home, pop in the discs, endure the 12gig installer and hope to load up the game to rip it up. Yet, apparantly Monolith decided to work with Steam & wanted me to endure 8 hours of patching before I could even think of loading the game. I couldn't be arsed with this logically, downloaded a crack & got the game running in about 15mins.

I instantly fell in love with the game from the moment I started the first mission. It had gotten already quite late by now & thus my room was fully dark when I started playing. The game still managed to creep me out as much as the first.

My love diminished a bit after a few hours of playing though. Despite the awesome gfx (atleast in my opinion, apparantly these gfx aren't even close to what others can offer nowadays?) & the same creepy gameplay, scared when opening every door and lurking around every corner, the game didn't feel the same way as the first did.
There wasn't anything new & it just felt like a slightly altered version of the first game. On top of that, the creepy gameplay wasn't all that creepy anymore after a bit. Since those moments that made you **** bricks in F.E.A.R. 1 were simply gone in this sequel. I'll never forgot the level in the facility in first game, where you had to slide down a ladder & Alma would just pop up right in front of your face the second you came off the ladder and turned around. Yet nothing like this was to be found in F.E.A.R. 2, not even the most obvious ones like "hey lets open this toilet door with blood smeared all over it & hope nothing happens. *nothing* ".

Anyhow, I really enjoyed the singleplayer nevertheless. I have no interest in playing the multiplayer since they removed bullettime from it for some reason, which was basicly the only thing that made the F.E.A.R. 1 multiplayer worth playing. So I'm back to scoring levels in CoD4 for now! While doing so, I actually thought of writing this blog & including something nice for future blogs.

I'd like to ask the community who reads this blog, to post a comment with a recent game that you've played and enjoyed alot. I'll buy & play the game(s) that I like and do a full review on them.

You might notice that I mainly love to play FPS games. I've always mainly played FPS, WoW (& Runescape) was the only exception to this. I tend to dislike RTS alot & really looking for mainly games with awesome singleplayer campaigns to buy here. I'm sure alot of people will suggest me Left 4 Dead, yet as far as I know, it's mainly a multiplayer game and I can't really be arsed with that at the moment. If I want to experience multiplayer galore, I'll load up CoD4 or even CS1.6.

Let the suggestions roll in!

I loved Call of Duty 4's single player campaign, and felt it was one of the most realistic and cinematic experiences in an FPS to date.

I think you may enjoy Dead Space if you are into survival-horror FPS, since you named Fear as one of your favs and I think it ranks up there as #1 or 2 in scariest games Ive ever played list (which is a rather long list btw!).

You may wanna give Fallout 3 a shot as well, even though its more of an FPS/RPG.  It was a lot of fun.

I'm not really specificly into survival-horror FPS, I just really liked the FEAR series. I can't really recall any other survival-horror games I've actually played other than that one ever since I played Resident Evil 1 on PSX :p.
I really liked the storyline bethind FEAR to, yet the biggest improvement for FEAR2 was probably the size of Alma's boobs :[. I feel like that if I wouldve played FEAR2 after playing a few other recent shooters first or without playing the first game, I wouldn't have enjoyed it at all.

i'd second dead space, though i didn't think it was that scary, more 'insanely gorey'. the gaming experience though i felt was really polished and it felt like a really cinematic experience. even though it employed a hell of a lot of sci fi horror cliches (aliens, predator, event horizon etc.) i found it really enjoyable to play.

other fps's that had really excellent singleplayer: bioshock (someone already mentioned below), stalker (2007, brilliant, the first game at least), prey (2007, really loved this game, you spend the entirety on this huge alien mothership which is basically a city of different alien races so they really let the imagination loose for the environments and events). if you've got the patience for bugs and any interest in lovecraft then call of cthulhu dark corners of the earth (2006) had a brilliant singleplayer (really buggy though, and story takes a while to get going, but develops into a really epic game).

oh and i didn't see mention of half life singeplayer & portal though i assume its redundant to mention those. portal in particular, only 3 hours but that short time its like the perfect game experience.

I have pretty much loved every Call of Duty game I have played mainly because of the sound. The guns and everything just sound amazing and the gameplay keeps you moving from dull moments to all out fire fights.

**** fps, your pretty much out of titles anyways (other than left4notenoughcampains) and since you dont like RTS it seems all you have to choose from are retarded flash games.

Branch out my friend, 360 is the next best thing.

depends what you're into

Gears of War if you like shooters (not quite fps)

Halo Wars if you like strategy (not quite classic-rts)

StreetFighter4 if you like beatemups (there is no other, but you can get on pc too)

Guitar Hero if you like feeling like a hero while looking like a muppet

Dead Rising if you like killin zombies with rubberducks

Oblivion if you like rpg (i hear fallout is good too, but you can get both on pc)

GTA if you like killin prostitutes

Gears of War sounds pretty nifty yeh

Halo Wars, never heard off, though I dislike the Halo universe. Played halo 1 & 2.

dont like beatemups. Only like Soul Calibur 2 :3

I play bass guitar IRL, so dont feel like mashing plastic buttons to pretend I can play a song :p

Never heard of that game, but sounds quite interesting I guess Oo

Played Oblivion on PC.

GTA was pretty ok, played it at a friends' house, though not really the kind of game I get hooked up on.

Well thinking about it, most of the xbox **** is out for pc anyways so might not be the best investment.

For single player, which you seem to be in love with, there is only one option.

Nintedo Sixty Four.

I recently replayed some of the old N64 games I liked when I was little, like kirby 64 & goldeneye. But it feels such a waste. I got a really good computer & just want to enjoy some kickass, awesome looking FPS singleplayer galore. FEAR & CoD were awesome to start off with, but I want moar :3

if you want single player a ps3 is alot better than a 360. xbox live is better than psn, but you have a good pc why the **** would you want to play anything online on a console.
uncharted, mgs4, infamous... the sp exclusives for ps3 completly outweigh those on xbox.

but without going to consoles, the new batman game is insane, definitely up there with cod4.
crysis is very fun until the aliens turn up and ruin it.
i didn't really like it that much but everyone loves bioshock, its got very good atmosphere.

and HoN is like wow arena without the wow.

I'm in the same boat, quit last month and have been trying to kill my unendurable boredom with single-player games. But nothing's sticking so far, and I can't afford a new PC to play newer games like FO3, because I'm worthless in life and have no money. Was excited to pop in my old NHL 2003 the other day but the installation crapped out, goddamit. NOVOSELTSEV!!!

Only FPS I tried was Battlefield 1942, was going to try to play online too but for some reason the mouse is all herky-jerky and I couldn't figure out why. Still, it's a fun game and I guess there are new versions (1943 or 2042 or something, never bothered to get them).

Do you like real-time tactical games, or TB? Jagged Alliance 2 is one of the best games ever made, no MP or RT though. Fallout: Tactics is also not bad and can play RT or TB, not sure if there's still MP for it. Back when there was matches would be full of very little skill but still fun.

Well, I'm not really playing SP's to kill boredom. I just started playing them & really liked it. Fallout 3 seems to get another mention, so I might give that a shot.

Got BF1942 in my shelves here, played a more recent BF once at a friends' house to, not really my thing. For some reason I don't like it at all compared to the CoD series.

And nah, I dislike tactical games even more than I dislike RTS.

What's about those 1st/3rd Person RPGs
Fallout 3
Divinity II
Risen (aka Gothik 4, coming out in 3 weeks)
LOTS of playtime (easily over 100 hours each)

CoD5 SP campagne is awefully good, too (but WWII setting). Just played it a week ago.

Older games can be fun to replay: Mafia, Deus Ex (1! 2 is bad).

Did you enjoy the GTA series? 4 is a good piece on pc or console.
