From Eurogamer, yesterday:

According to VG247, Blizzard chief Mike Morhaime told the Activision Blizzard investor conference that the company sees micro-transactions as an important part of World of Warcraft’s future.

We… expect digital sales to increase in the future, and plan to take advantage of it,” he said. His comment follows the appearance of the pet store earlier this week, offering the first ever sale of in-game items for WOW.

Morhaime offered reassurance that any in-game items or services Blizzard sells for the game, on top of the regular subscription, will be inessential.

“All value added services are not required, as they are optional only nor will they adversely impact the experience should customers decide not to participate or purchase them,” said the Blizzard boss.

I already mentioned how I felt about it. Just thought I’d put this out there for people that didn’t think a cash shop was coming. Can we consider this an example of Blizzard taking the ideas of other games and making them more expensive their own?

As long as the items remain inessential then it's fine. If anything, we should be glad this has come around, all the suckers that actually buy these misc items will feed Blizz's bankroll which will produce more resources for better games in the future.

It's not all about the money, there are other factors involved, no ****... Why am I even explaining this to you. I thought WotLK was a good expansion all around, if you're talking about arena money doesn't suddenly balance the game.

What's inside that skull of yours? A brick? God you're ******* retarded. Just stop.

Come back when you grow out of your 8th grade philosophy.

"Why am I even explaining this to you."

Beats me, maybe you should be talking to the guy claiming "feeding Blizz's bankroll will produce more resources for better games".

Aside from the race change which could benefit you racial-wise, I certainly hope they don't introduce any paid service that benefits your character performance. Like buying armor sets for example.

Gold could be considered both essential and inessential depending on the context. EverQuest was rather successful with selling gold to casuals legally. It helped eliminate quite a few of the gold selling companies.

Buy cheap gold, risk getting banned. Pay a bit more legally, don't get banned. It could cut a lot of the gold seller spam.

I think the whole thing is retarded, but I'm sorry I find this quite a relieving statement.

Inessential means they'll only sell useless **** and not trinkets and **** like that for $$.

Activi$$$$$ion blizzard still,but that's sort of a positive post.

I don't see the problem?  None of it will be required, break balance, influence core game play.  Just a bunch of **** female gamers and casual Dads will buy for their children.  Oh nooo.

A lot of people really care about what the armor looks like. Blizzard should sell new skins for the existing armor (while keeping current stats) and they would make a fortune out of the gullible.

hell If I could reskin my armor as bloodfang, tirisfall, deathdealer, corruptor, or judgment I would most certainly pay for that.

Blizzard just needs to add more armor customizeability period.

People need to understand simple Business.

Blizzard made WoW, made a good player base - Check

Blizzard introduces TBC, increases player base and money - check

Blizzard introduces Wotlk, increases player base and money - Check

Why would blizzard listen to you then?

They are making more money, they dont care what all of you think. I dont blame them. If i were them i would be doing the same. Unless another MMO can actually compete with them, they have nothing to worry about.

Because even if hardcores quit, they all come back after 5 months since there is nothing better to do anyways. And casuals barely quit since everything it catered to them.

Also like the other guy said, we should be happy as long as it doesnt affect gameplay. More money to blizzard, more QQ! More QQ more fun on forums!!
