I talked about the Arkham Asylum collector's edition before but we didn't really know what was in it other than a product listing.  It mentioned this nearly mythological Batarang and now we actually have a shot of it.

If that bad boy is metal this might be the coolest collector's edition ever.  I have ranted about CEs and goofy gamer stuff in other blogs but I would gladly take the ridicule of buying this for the ability to toss a death inducing Batarang at my foes.  Illegal immigrants and robbers beware!  Is it worth $100 for this set?  That I don't know but it does sound pretty impressive:

-  14 inch replica Batarang (metal instead of plastic and this is pure win)
-  48 page leather bound journal covering the insane folks at Arkham Asylum
-  A behind the scenes DVD
-  Code to download the "Crime Alley" challenge map

I think Qlimax was going to pick this up and if the game turns out good I may have to consider this game myself.  I've linked gameplay videos before and I think many of us were impressed.  Maybe Eidos has a winner on their hands.  I am definitely anticipating this more than the Wolverine Origins game release.

Of course they better hope they have winner as their hype is in full effect over at MCV.  “We expect Batman Arkham Asylum to not only be the biggest game of the summer but one of the stand-out games of the year" said their head of UK marketing.  On top of that "it’s as close to perfect as we’ve ever come, it looks amazing, plays beautifully and has a rich twisting storyline with enormous replayability".

Pretty high praise for a unestablished franchise and a property that has a history of substandard games.  But they have to start somewhere right?  Batman games can't always be bad can they?  Hopefully Eidos is going to be the equivalent of Christopher Nolan and restore some dignity to the Dark Knight.

June 9th on PC, 360 and PS3.
