Andy Reif with the CGS GM's TheCGS.com |
According to Reif, team General Managers will be able to safeguard some of their players for the second season, but did not specify how many. Current franchise players not chosen to be protected will have to play at the combine to prove themselves again for this year's draft along with all the new competitors. Decisions have not yet been made regarding the possibility of trades during the season, or what effect taxi teams will have. No new franchises will be added for this year.
The North American season itself will run from June 23rd to July 14th in Los Angeles.
Games have not yet been finalized as General Managers and executives from around the league are still converging. Reif noted that game selection is based on multiple criteria including competitive features, community support, and broadcast capabilities. World of WarCraft will be used again this season, but no decision has been made on an official format (2v2, 3v3, etc). According to rumors, Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 will be a part of the recently announced CGSOnline initiative.
More information regarding the season two North American combine and draft will be released tomorrow, Thursday, January 31st, at 9 AM PST (18:00 CET).

That's the most details I've heard about player retention yet!
Everyone knew they'd be allowed to keep some players, but not that they'd have to decide which ones before the draft.
This means that GMs won't be able to make a draft-day decision on whether they want a player or not. So, they can't wait to see if, say, Maximus (PGR3 racer close to Ch0mpr in skill and probably faster than anyone else in the US region) is available before deciding whether to drop one of their PGR3 guys.
That probably won't have a huge change for most GMs, but it should have some. Even if you drop someone, there's still a high chance you'll be able to re-draft them to your team, anyway.
The big question on what they're going to do with CS, though, looms as well, since you'd assume they'd protect players on an individual basis with this format.

COD4 5v5 would be pretty good, ONLY on PC though. If they're considering COD4 on Console, they're no smarter then the monke peeing in its own mouth.
Halo 3? Something I really don't want in CGS, but, with the numbers, you can't avoid it. I don't think little 13 year old idiots running around thinkin their 'pro gamers' is really what we need.
How would the drafting work for COD4? Will you only be chosen if you're a well known team? Or can any team show up and play? (I never watched or paid attention to the first year drafting)

The actual CGS franchise teams can only have people at least 18 years in age, so I'm not sure that maturity issue would be that much of a problem.
