The next big Batman game is coming in on the heels of The Dark Knight. Unfortunately it won't be out this year and thankfully it won't be based on the movie as movie-to-game translations generally suck.Â
Batman: Arkham Asylum is due out sometime next year on the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. No crappy Wii port planned at this time. The game takes place in the infamous Gotham prison/nut house, Arkham Asylum. I don't know if you get to spend some time out in Gotham at this point as the screen shots give nothing of the sort away at this point. The other awesome news? Kevin Conroy who did the voice work of Batman in The Animated Series (the definitive Batman voice if you ask me) is going to do the same on this game. And to top it off Mark "too cool for Skywalker" Hamill will be picking up where he left in the Batman cartoons as the Joker.Â
The last decent Batman game was "Vengeance" and that was almost 7 years ago which was based on the animated series. It is time for someone to portray this franchise properly in the gaming world. I like the art style so far so hopefully it doesn't turn in to a boring, repetitive, beat um up game. They are trying to focus on the "detective aspect" as well which have a "CSI like" style featuring forensic puzzles. This could be really sweet or it could really bog down the game down; hopefully the former.Â
Bats has always been one of my favorite super heroes after Wolverine and the X-men so make me proud Rocksteady Studios.
Check out some more screen shots thanks to the crew at Shacknews.

That is definitely the coolest aspect so far, and I dig the art style.
I don't think this is GOTY contender or anything, but if its something that say averages around a 8 or higher in metacritic I may check it out.

I'm hoping that this will be good, but chances are it will be mediocre at best.

Well, in fairness, WoW is the best in its genre right now.

God "CSI-like" puzzles sound so unnattractive in an action adventure game it's not even funny.

As long as it isn't some over the top Carmen Sandiego ****, it might be okay. Sounds like something that could either make or break the game.

Puzzles in action games just always frustrate me. They have to be really well done and well integrated into the environment Zelda style to be okay imo.

Hopefully its not just a fighting game- punching and kicking. If it is will for sure lick anal cavaity. If it has vehicles and gadgets should be promising.

Should be decent I'd hope. Good plot so far it seems.
The best Batman game was the oldschool one on NES (or was it SNES?) where you could wall jump and slide, it had amazing music and awesome level design/art work.
