Today Capcom confirmed the speculation from this weekend (see earlier post) that Dead Rising 2 is indeed on the way. You can get the above image in sexy wallpaper size right here if you like. You can see the trailer below with quick shots of some casino floor action. And the official image definitely gives that "run down Vegas" look of some beat up neon lights. "The all new gambling paradise of Fortune City to explore" is noted below as the new locale for zombie action. Seems we get a Vegas clone in the game and I love the idea of a whole city to explore. I definitely have a wishlist for the sequel and that is a blog for the near future. Currently I am about half way through the original and loving it.
The screenshots from the game have us wondering where our dear Frank is. Maybe we get a cameo appearance? Either way this looks impressive.
Even better news? It is multiplatform and will be coming to PS3, PC and Xbox 360.

Here is the press release from Capcom:
THE DEAD WALK AGAIN AS CAPCOM CONFIRMS DEAD RISINGTM 2
Sequel to 1.5 million-plus seller announced for multiple gaming platforms
London “ February 9, 2009 - Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed that Dead Rising 2 is in development for three different gaming platforms: the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Sony Computer Entertainment™s PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3) and the PC. The sequel to the 1.5 million-plus selling Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2 will take the franchise to a new level of zombie-killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies, the all new gambling paradise of Fortune City to explore and conquer plus a host of new in-game objects that can all be used as deadly weapons to stave off the zombie assault.Dead Rising 2 is set several years after the infamous zombie invasion of Willamette. Unfortunately, the zombie virus was not contained at the conclusion of Dead Rising, spreading unchecked throughout the United States and Dead Rising 2 depicts a country where zombie outbreaks continue to strike.
Dead Rising 2 is being developed in partnership with up and coming Canadian developer Blue Castle Games. A number of members from the original Dead Rising team will be working alongside Blue Castle Games throughout the development process, including Capcom’s global head of research and development, Keiji Inafune, who as the games Producer will play an active role in the project.
Released in 2006, Dead Rising won praise across the globe for its mix of intense zombie action and dark humour, garnering numerous awards including IGN’s “Most Innovative Design for Xbox 360, Gamespot's “Best Action-Adventure Game for 2006 and Action Game of the Year at the 2006 Spike TV Video Game Awards.
Further details concerning the story and gameplay of Dead Rising 2 will be made available shortly.

That is exactly what I am thinking. GTA sandbox mixed in with elements of the last game, this could be amazing.

Updated with SS.
I haven't driven much, but soon here (I'm lvl 11 now) Ill probably head to the maintenance tunnels to get the 53K achievement so I can use the mega buster next time around. Though it may be wise to just do it on my 2nd play through so I am not missing all the scoops.

Well I did play the main scoops the first time around :p got a crappy ending and then decided i'd play once more, missed the "real ending" a second time then I decided to get the buster :p
Basically the story is alot more fun and challenging without it so yea, get it the second round imo, driving around in the maintence tunnels should only happen when u got absolutly nothing to do :P

Indeed it could be. I've yet to play the original, but I'll probably rent it sometime before this comes out.

Kinda off-topic: Should I buy a Wii just for House of the Dead Overkill and Mad World? Decisions, decisions...
Even if Sony's dick hasn't been shaved for a while and stinks; and Microsoft's dick has ugly pus-filled pimples - Nintendo's is soooo tiny and didn't even grow its first hair yet.

Do you own a Wii? I'm really curious if you can play a lightgun shooter with a crappy Wii Zapper well.
Because, seriously, I played House of the Dead 2 on my Dreamcast for like 200+ hours
Sadly, I can't play it anymore because it doesn't support my new 100hz TV
Mario Galaxy and Rayman Raving Rabbids would find their way into my home anyways, but I still need a real reason to buy a Wii (if there is any). The price is still retardedly high compared to other consoles and I think the missing hard-drive would drive me insane if I downloaded WiiWare titles.

I have one in the house, but it isn't technically mine even though I use it the most. Im sure you could use the wii zapper, don't see it being an issue. Shooting with the wiimote on RE4 was leaps and bounds better than analog controls.

Well, I guess I'll have to break my not buying a game for 60.00 bucks rule when this comes out.

I never play the first one, and I don't think anything is gonna change for me. It's this or L4D, and well L4D has its own damn good thing (but even that is getting old now)

Hey does anyone know the release date for this game? or the year?

I am guessing it will be out this year, that is a lot of media and PR buildup for a game to not come out this year.Â
Date? That is a tough question. 2nd half of the year, probably quarter 4 if I had to guess.
