As I generally do with big releases of games I planned to spend a bit of time with Dragon Age today and pass off some reviews for you guys to wade through if you may be sitting on the fence over this solid Bioware-produced RPG.  I'll get to a full review eventually but with vacation coming up and too many games I don't have time to knock one out quite yet.

I, being the smart person that I am, picked this up on PC unlike some people.  Gamebynight does have a solid preview though (see last link) that you should definitely check out.  I don't see how you could play something like this on a console to be perfectly honest, no matter how modified the control system.  The IGN review embeded below pretty much confirms my thoughts that it is a very different game on the console thanks to the controls and pacing.  Those of you with crappy PCs should probably just upgrade.  :)

1920x1200, try getting your 360 to run that (down-scaled).  :)
Reviews are solid so far with the game pulling a 91.21% on Gamerankings.com.  The PS3 is scoring slightly below that in the 90's and the 360 is coming in around 89.

IGN - 9/10
GameSpot - 9.5/10
1UP - A
GameTrailers - 9.1/10
GameSpy - 4.5/5
Eurogamer - 8/10

Eurogamer per the usual comes in tied with the lowest review of the day so far.  I'm not saying they are hard-***** or anything but let's just say Tom Cruise is a big fan of their work.  They generally cut the B.S. though so I can appreciate them for that.

So far I like it.  Graphically it is a sharp game though not as taxing as I would have thought earlier this year.  It runs great on my suped-up rig so no issues in that regard.

Gameplay wise I can't give a full judgment in that regard quite yet not being very far in.  The pause button is definitely your best friend on the PC and pretty much a must use.  You can't really go hacking and slashing on in without a bit of tactic as the game moves on so taking time to pause and get situated is a key aspect to surviving.  I do wish there was more of a action/combat queue and if this is something that expands later on feel free to correct me.  I generally don't like to plan only one step at time.

I definitely look forward to spending more time with this in the coming weeks if I can pull myself away from Left 4 Dead 2 and Modern Warfare 2.

Thoughts and impressions?  What do you guys think of the game so far?

yes it is.

My only complaint about the game thus far is its extremely difficult to pick a class because they tell you literally jack **** (even the biowhere hosted wiki doesnt list them all). about the second tier classes until youve already leveled up and get there.
'
Also they have these ******* money grab quests where its like HEY DUDE WANNA GO ONA EPIC ADVENSHURE?

if you say yes, it asks you to buy DLC. and if you don't buy it, it stays in your ******* quest log anyway.

No its not, I dont get why people are saying it is.  Sure its free world in the sense that after a certain point you have a lot of freedom in where you go and when, but its not open world in the sense that you can spin in circles, and then start walking endlessly in a direction.

You travel around the land via a world map, not actual walking.

How much did Dragon Age pay Gameriot to wallpaper the backdrop with their advertisement?

Why the **** does it matter? Besides, how many games have you seen in the GR wallpaper? Let me answer that for you, MANY.

It doesn't matter more than curiosity.  Its a pretty big advertisement compared to others i've noticed and was just wondering how much money Dragon Age paid.  Thats all.

I remember there was one but i can't remember how big it was.  I usually kind of ignore it, more like its subliminal to looking at the blogs and comments.  The Dragon Age one seems to be jumping out at me though.  Its a full page when i'm loading stuff here too.  Thats what made me wonder.

Op Flashpoint did it, TMNT, and now Dragon Age apparently.  Others have in the past but they slip my mind atm.

I have no idea how that stuff works tbh and I like it that way as it is totally separate from any and all editorial content (on my end at least) unless noted which hasn't been done since Warhammer sponsored some WOM blogs.

I saw it and asked my superiors why the hell did I have to buy it?  :)  I'd definitely note it was a free copy in the review so the FCC doesn't hunt me down and crucify me in their latest attempt and crushing blog payolla!

"Dragon Age is here. Worth the wait and hype?"

I say yes, very much so.  The game is wonderfully deep, has a great deal of length to it, and possesses a very fun and challenging level of difficulty right from the start.  The combat rewards you for intelligent planning and strategy in combat, and punishes you harshly if you go without those things.

The graphics are good for what the requirements are.  And the requirements themselves are a godsend to the gaming community (whether they admit it or not) because far more people can play this game than would have been able to had they chose to go with a huge graphics engine.

Ya, I'm playing on "hard" difficulty and the challenge is definitely felt with almost every single fight.

It is amazing what a clutch root or shield bash can do to turn the tide of battle.  I'm consistently pausing the battle probably every 4-5 seconds just to make sure all my actions count and I am keeping things under as much control as possible.

You'll learn to love the "H" hotkey for hold, as your group memebers sometimes like to just run at the enemy for no reason.

I'm up to my first encounter with Dark Spawn and so far I'm enjoying it. I'm not a huge fan of the whole tactic system because it reminds me of WC3 and I'm just not really into that type of game but none the less it's fun.

It starts off slow but I'm told that's because I picked a human and that anything else would have provided a better story.

So far, the game doesn't disappoint, I'm playing as a human noble (warrior) and it's been quite fun. I've gotten to the point where you deal with the child "Abomination" and tbh the tactics you need to execute are very intricate.

It's basically as they said: Baldurs gate with 3d graphics

which is ******* awesome imo =P

Played it quite abit. Theres ALOT of dialoge in this game. Sometimes you will have to sit for hours with no fighting at all.

You can compare it to a mix between The Witcher and Neverwinter nights.

Or, if you will Mass Effect, with a medeval skin.
