Early Review Of Mario Kart Wii; Positive, Minus The Wheel

Wiiwiitv has a hands on look at Mari Kart on the Nintendo Wii after a trip out to Nintendo in Germany to check it out.


First thing to note they really enjoyed the game as expected. It is after all a Mario Kart game and rarely do they fail to impress. They mention a good balance of new and old tracks and drivers. There are hidden unlockable characters (Sonic maybe?). The bikes are faster than the cars, can do wheelies, but are a bit harder to control.

In conclusion they had a lot of positive things to say with only one major complaint. The completely useless wheel Wiimote add on. When I first saw this I admit, a bit of nostalgia hit and I thought sweet a Mario Kart game, and it comes with a bonus free wheel attachment. But lately after seeing it in use and thinking about it, holding up a wheel in mid air just seems a bit retarded. The guys at Wiiwiitv call it "rubbish" and suggest just using the mote/nunchuck combo, or a Gamecube controller.

I remember laughing at a friend of the family who bought her kids all those "sports attachments" for the Wii they bought their kids for Christmas. I talked to her a week or two ago and she noted how the kids don't even use them and "they are pretty pointless". It sounds like this WiiWheel may turn out the same way.
