Turkey day is over and if you haven't started your workout plan you should probably get on that.  While you are on the treadmill, welcome again to the Epic Drop!  +1 if you dig this!

Apparently Obama dreads losing his Blackberry.  He wants to "break through the isolation and the bubble that exists around the president" and is giving up his phone "is a problem".  He fears losing touch with the people by giving up his phone even though there are a ton of security and privacy concerns.  This should be a non issue, he knew the rules going in.  This must be a part of "change".

The U.S. war on drugs is a failure according to a Washington think tank at the request Mexico's former president.  I guess we should just let everyone use whatever they please and cross our fingers in hopes that this "drug problem" goes away and just make money off of taxing it.  Um, no.  Clearly the tactics in the law enforcement area aren't working however.

December 10, 2008 is "National Day Without a Gay Day".  Organizers hope to show the U.S. how rough life will be when people call in "gay", not sick, to protest for gay rights.  I imagine this may be cause for some awkward moments the next day at work.  Hopefully all the male strippers stick it out and go to work...

Thanks to the success of that **** movie Twilight it seems Joss Whedon may be looking to do a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, this time with Sarah Michelle Gellar and not Kristy Swanson.  It seems he ideas down already according to rumors and he just needs the green light from a studio?  I think rated R is the best choice and Gellar and Hannigan should make out insuring that I go see this flick.

Ars Technica takes a look at the latest tech trends and features that we should be thankful for this Thanksgiving.  Props to Left 4 Dead, Intel's Nehalem and the return of net browser wars.  All hail The Fox!

This guy has got to be piss ass drunk.  Remind me to never play darts if I make my way to the UK for a vacation:

lol @BlackBerry Obama... seriously. I dont see a very big security problem. Just make sure there is no GPS on it and that he's not using personal information while browsing.
Like terrorists would go: Zomg thats Obamas signal for sure *launch missle from Asia to Starbucks in D.C.* ...

The Dart Dude was killer xD

Well any email and what not that is used with it becomes a matter of public record as well.  So then the question is, why cant he just use a normal cell phone?

Dunno... normal cell without email push? Pretty much garbage for business purpose. He could carry a netbook for emails via UMTS... but thats not a very handy solution imho.

I think the point is why does he need email anyhow?  Between web access and the 10-12 people in his ciricle, it isn't like he will ever "struggle" for information...

Dont think his staff could fill him in on the latest "Black **** ***** white *****" streams on youporn though.
Or how can he answer all those callgirl mailoffers for entertainment while out of town? :)

Its not like anyone would lecture the president on that, if they go through his weblogs anyways

Pretty sure the reason why people are pissed about it is because you can intercept blackberry transmissions. It's called a security risk as in leaking secrets. It's only a load of bull**** out of obamba to act like he's just an average joe and trying to keep in touch with "the people" anyway.

As soon as I saw the half naked guy in the video, I knew it was English.
I've actually seen more disturbing things happen in English pubs.

National Day Without a Gay Day
I can only imagine the hysteria that could ensue if one were to abuse the affliction of "gay".
"I was gay last week, but now I have AIDS, so I won't be in today. Mark has cancer, and Steve passed away but will be in tomorrow."

I wish there was crazy stuff like that in bars around here.  Just a bunch of drunk idiots who think they are 10x stronger than they really are after a few beers.  Always cracks me up putting them in place.

English pubs are mostly full of drunken idiots who enjoy fighting, but on the odd occasion I've seen creepy/amusing things happen in them too.

Bars are in another league of evil, though.

We tend to kind of call bars and pubs the same thing.  Though maybe there would be a difference in size, where a smaller bar, more of the locals hanging out, would be considered a pub.

Over here Bars are like, watered down night clubs. Lower music volume, more couches and **** and generally more relaxed. Pubs are like band music or radio or whatever with a bunch of stools and **** and people play pool and crowd around the bar etc.

Night clubs everyone knows what they are :)

Here "bars" generally refer to what you would normally call a club. Most drinking establishments here that people go to downtown are pubs that play east coast Nova Scotian/Newfoundlandish music and serve mostly beer. The city is an old maritime one so the bar scene is appropriate.

And from my experience working with British guys, they can't drink worth ****.

The Irish on the other hand...

That is a terrible idea.  Enabling anyone and everyone to use such things with little to no hindrance is gateway to problems of all sorts.  Addictions, impairment causing deaths/damage to others and property, further financial woes, health issues, etc.

Punishments for possessing and using such drugs at least acts as some sort of deterrent.

tax all the drugs, if people screw thrmselves over that their problem. They've got to pay for their healthcare in the US and if they can't they die, their problem. I don't see why everyone is so pro keeping people alive who've been on drugs or who are obese. If it were down to me, they would just continue their life until death.

You know what the addiction rate of "hard" drugs is when used in controlled quantities?  Very low, actually.

Cocaine is like, 3-8 percent.

Plus, there are many drugs that aren't really all that harmful.

The single largest cause of health problems arising from Ecstasy abuse is inconsistency in dosage.

Let's say it takes 10mg of E for the full effect.

Person tries E. Buys one pill. It's 10mg. Get's high.

Person tries E again. Buys one pill. It's 5mg. Doesn't work very well.

Person tries E a third time. Buys two pills because the last time one wasn't enough. They are 10mg. Bad for you.

Studies are showing that a consistent dosage of X isn't actually that harmful. It's the inconsistency and subsequent misdosage that is worse. This would be all but eliminated with regulation.

Although normally punishments are a deterrent to some things, you cant possibly find and punish even half of the population who regularly uses some drugs (weed mostly). Legalizing all drugs would be a problem due to the ridiculously addictive nature of some of the stronger opiates (heroin etc). However if you consider that the addiction rate of nicotine is as close if not a little higher than heroin and coke. Keeping all substances illegal is also a gateway to problems of all sorts as we can clearly see. It has been proven prohibition doesn't work especially with relatively widely accepted substances (alcohol, weed).

Addiction is already a problem. When you take an addict and lock him up there is a large probability he will relapse once he gets out. Most the damage caused by impairment is alcohol. If these drugs were legal the financial woes would be less as well as the unnecessary health risks associated with tainted/unknown purity of the drug.

Punishment clearly isn't working. People should be able to choose what they put in their bodies to some extent. Many illicit drugs, while people are on them pose no danger to others. The whole "His pants will be encrusted with semen from being unable to find a rape victim" just doesn't fly anymore, atleast to people who know what hey are talking about and arent ignorant spewing propaganda at others.

Anyway to close there are a few drugs that should be legal, in my opinion. MArijuana, Psilocybin/psilocin mushrooms, MDMA (ecstasy), as well as LSD should be legal. I wont rant on each drug as to why it should be, I have ranted enough.

Don't tax it, just legalize it.  Why should the government make money off of what you put in your body?

How many of you believe in a Woman's right to kill her baby because it's "HER BODY", but don't think people should have a right to put whatever the **** they want to in their own bodies?

I don't think the idea is to tax using drugs but buying them, just like any other item.

I don't use drugs of any kind (and that includes alcohol) but I kind of agree that prohibition laws don't work. Once an easy to make substance spreads enough it becomes impossible to effectively forbid. Some bastard will always find a way to get him and his buddies and their buddies hooked up no matter what anyone says.

I wasn't implying that drugs should be taxed on use (lolwut), just simply that 'sin' taxes aren't moral.

The War on Drugs in it's current form is retarded. While I'm not completely adverse to keeping things like Heroin and Meth illegal, the deterrent shouldn't be jail time it should be the harmful effects themselves. The largely conservative base opposed to decriminalization is the same group firmly opposed to firearms regulation. I agree, because if someone really wants to get a gun they will still be able to get one. I don't see how drugs are any different.

Spending billions of dollars a year on fighting the sale of marijuana and imprisoning those who use it is one of the biggest jokes in law enforcement. That money should be going towards educational programs and paying off debt. In fact the government should be capitalizing on this. A price of cigarettes is what, $5? The same quantity of marijuana could be produced at the same price and sell for 12 times that. It's far easier to grow than tobacco and could help replace largely subsidized farming staples.

The precedent is set. Drug policies and drug abuse rates in countries such as the Netherlands speak for themselves. If nothing else, the government needs to stop making the mistake of clumping all drugs into the same category when some are so clearly worse than others. The lack of a clearly defined line between widely acceptable pot and unacceptable heroin is as harmful as the availability of the drugs themselves.

The only reason I'd advocate keeping the hardest drugs illegal, in the short term, is because the stigma associated with them would make it much harder to legalize the less dangerous drugs. The first step should be getting those taken care of, the sooner the better.

If someone gets off on juggling knives in their bedroom, is there anything you can do to stop them? No, because who the **** cares. If they die from it it's their own fault.

Interesting graph here detailing the most dangerous drugs. It was compiled by a UK government agency by consulting 20 experts on the various aspects of drug use, from physical to psychological.

Interesting to see alcohol scoring 5th and tobacco 9th, compared to 11th for cannabis, 14th for LSD and 18th for ecstasy.

ROFL, achohol and cigarettes are cheaper and easier to come buy, people use them more often.  If cannibis, ecstasy, etc were more available and cheaper would be a big difference.  One beer a day compared to an ecstasy pill a day?  **** you up son.

At least you guys in America have interesting people in Politics. We have Kevin Rudd and I don't even know the leader of the Liberals (which is the party I vote, John Howard was previous leader and was super awesome). Those guys are just boring and have no charisma. Kevin Rudd has the most fake smile and cheesiest grin you'll ever see.

Maybe it was on American news where Kevin Rudd leaked info about a phone call with George Bush where Bush was claiming ignorance about the G20 summit, and made Bush look like an idiot, and in turn Bush gave him the cold shoulder when they greeted at the summit.
