Keeley Day is here and my heart is full of overwhelming joy!  If I was in to show-tunes I just might sing one (no).  Not just over Keeley however as tomorrow starts my vacation and the GameRiot Blog will be on hiatus till later next week.  Don't worry I can still keep tabs on the crazy spammers and porn posters thanks to the Motorola Droid I am going to pick up in a bit here.  :)  +1 for Soccer brutality!

This story almost brought a tear to my eye so it is leading off tonight (thanks Trinh).  A dying 6-year-old girl who's family kept her unaware of her condition had been writing love notes (hundreds) and leaving them all around the house for her family to find.  They are still finding them to this day almost as if she knew she was going to die from the brain cancer and wanted to leave something behind.  Very cool story and something uplifting to start your weekend.

A Brazilian man woke up
one morning to find out that people were attending his funeral and he decided to show up.  It seems a local man dressed similar to him died in a car crash and was badly disfigured.  Some of his family identified the body even though others had their doubts.  Family gatherings should be a real hoot for these guys in the future... "remember that time you ******** thought I was dead?"

The glorious Keeley ladies and gentlemen.  Keeley with her top on just isn't fair, so here is some NSFW.
Milla Jovovich is Tweeting like crazy over the filming of Resident Evil: Afterlife.  There are a few spoilers here and there and I know I am like one of two people on this site that doesn't mind these flicks so you can suffer this post and check them out if you like.

It seems the nutty Army doctor/Major is still alive after the shootings at Ft. Hood today even though for most of the day the media was under the assumption that he was dead.  It seems he took four bullets and was eventually downed.  He now lays unconscious and on a ventilator and isn't expected to die.  Good, death by bullets would have been too easy for this son of a *****.

Auto execs feel
that the government needs to push gas prices towards $8/gallon to motivate people to buy their more fuel efficient vehicles including electric-based cards.  So they profit greatly over the years thanks gas guzzeling vehicles but now that the government is pushing them for fuel efficiency they want us to pay for their procrastination?  Sounds like a fair deal to me, where can I rush to fill up my tank for $150?

The Men Who Stare At Goats looks mildly amusing though it doesn't have great ratings at Rotten Tomatoes.  Capone at AICN gives it a nod however and if I am bored this weekend I may go and catch it on a matinee.

Brock Lesnar has mono and now the delayed fight from UFC 106 to 108 will now be pushed back even further.  I had mono once back in elementary school and it was horrible.  I can't imagine trying to be a finely tuned competitive athlete while dealing with it.  Hopefully all is well come spring/late winter and Brock can get back in to the cage and pummel Carwin for talking ****.

Tonight's video would make Vinnie Jones proud of women's soccer.  Check the ass kicking these girls hand out (mainly that Lambert chick) rivaling the brutality we will probably see on the Fedor/Rogers fight this weekend.  Via DeadSpin with my own backup link:

Calm down and cut the doomsday crap. Americans are much more dependent on a car than Europeans, because many towns and cities simply lack alternatives.

In Germany the tax on gas is partially used to lower direct taxation and thus labor costs, but you can't do this in the US without middle class families raiding the White House.

Why don't you propose to ban guns while Obama's at it? That would double the fun.

"because many towns and cities simply lack alternatives."

A lot of our towns lack alternatives because they are so spread out with suburbia. Look at the size of Jacksonville, FL for an example.

If they made gas 8 bucks a gallon, middle class families would become poor class families really quick.  My fiancee's gas bill is already ~$350 a month depending on gas prices because she commutes over 60 miles a day (30 to work 30 back).  That's 300 miles + a week just to drive to work and back.  That doesn't count any personal driving to the grocery store, to dinner, to fun stuff, visit parents/family/friends etc.

You raise gas prices x 3 that's almost a motgage payment just to drive to work.  It'd cause massive poverty on a major scale.  Food prices would be driven up because transportation costs would go through the roof.  It's such a bad idea, I can't imagine anyone would take it serious.  For once I agree with Dub.

Just like Godsmak said, Americans rely on the car and for good reason. For one, our country is a billion times larger than yours. I could hike across your country. Some people commute upwards of two hours on an interstate to work here.

Second. Do your research. All of the american motor companies are releasing extremely fuel efficient cars now. Hell, Ford has been doing it for years and years already.

Care to use that logic about country size against canadians?

Only just a few months ago im pretty sure we were paying something like 1.5 a litre (so atleast 5 a gallon).

The fact is, nearly everywhere else has been dealing with way higher gas prices then the states for years, (and what's odd is im quite sure the majority of your oil comes from Canada).

Right now where I live, its about the lowest its been in quite a long time, and its still over a dollar more per gallon then the US so.

The reason U.S. cars are so bad on gas is because car safety is (currently) a much bigger priority. If we made these tiny cars like europe that are great in gas, we would see much higher fatality rates in car crashes.

I figure if gas prices rise, that trend will reverse.
