After several years of running a handful of Quake 3 servers across the country, GGL has decided to close them. The 5 or 6 servers scattered across the nation will no longer show their bright-eyed faces on my server browser or HLSW anymore. For a couple of seconds today, I lost all meaning to go on living. I was able to speak to GGL Wire's Mahmood Ali about the situation and he told me "it's just a waste of money hosting the servers when we don't run Q3 tournies."
As a gamer who frequented the servers, I am saddened. And though there are many other servers out there, I will remember the good times I've had playing on them. For anyone else looking to find new servers out there, you can pick up All Seeing Eye, a great server browser for tons of different games.
O GGL - CHI [22653], my most beloved destination for online Quake 3 action, you will be missed.
