The gentleman over at this Burned by the Man site has noted something odd in 10 of the 11 Gamestops in his area. The lack of minority staff. In fact, the removal of minority staff that was previously employed there. He noticed that 10 of the 11 stores are now staffing a "White Nerd/Hot Chick combo" and that in 10 of the stores all the minority workers were let go.

A former African American employee of Gamestop that the article's author knew noted that he was "WWB" aka "working while black". Not only was he let go but that 4 other black guys at his store were let go within the same week as him.
Very interesting story here especially when I think about my last two Gamestop visits. I don't go there too often as a) their prices are high and I can get things online cheaper and b) I tend to know more about this gaming stuff than they do.
However the two separate locations I have visited in regards to a Metal Gear preorder both had this white guy, good looking girl combo, and no minorities in the two visits to each store. This could just be a coincidence, I will agree. And I can't verify if there were minorities there before as I rarely go there. However after reading this piece it kind of clicked with me as well.
Have you guys noticed this in your local Gamestops? Is this all a bunch of crap? I am curious to know if anyone else out there is experiencing this.

wow the last few times i went to a gamestop (all different ones) they had that same combo with one white nerd/hot chick. gonna probably go around to the mall by my school to see if the gamestop there is like that too haha

There are no chicks working at the GameStop by my house. In fact, it's been pretty much the same 4-5 guys working there for the last 4 years...kinda sad actually. At least I know 2 of them are in college.
Anyway, kinda funny that you picked a picture with a minority in it. Not sure if that was intentional...

I was mainly going for the geeky/hot combo and that seemed to fit. I'll see if I can find something better.

I don't like talking about these things but I don't see that at all in any of the gamestops near where I live. All of the gamestops I go to are really diverse, and they all have knowledge on games.
I'd like to know the city/region where this person is.

The same, I think I am going to ask on his blog. Having 11 GameStops within short distance must make it a huge city. Here in Grand Rapids, I have like 6 within 25 miles.
I should stop by the other couple and see if the theme continues.

A little more irony now, as Smith is indeed a white nerd, yet with a hot wife. He he has even done plenty of retail in his life, so he is exeperienced. =p

Would never and havent shopped at gamestop for this reason. I like more Southern American flavor in my gaming stores.

I can elaborate a little more. This was in Mid-Michigan. And it was not just 1 random run, i am highly addicted to Eye of Judgment so if i get bored i run around to all the video game stores and pick up the 2-3 packs of cards they carry. I did this on 6-7 different occasions and me and the wife have been joking about it for months. Yesterday i went into Walmart to buy a stand for the new Plasma and the old GameStop manager was there, he was the one who got an axe along with a few others and he filled me in on what happened to all of them.

Interesting. I am guessing we are in the same area then, though you are probably traveling slightly further distances than I am. Quite the coincidence.
That was my main reason for posting it here, to see if others around the states have noticed the same thing or if this is just some local thing.

Though if you are in the middle of the state, I am more on the west. This could very well be two different areas.

The closest one to me in San Diego has a white nerd male AND female. Maybe she could pass as hot? I'll take note when I go for Mario Kart Wii.

I went to a GameStop by my house (I dorm at CSU Long Beach so it's the first time I've been to one in like a year.) during the end of my Winter break (last week of January) to sell a bunch of crap and reserve Brawl.
It was the first time I went into the store and I saw two white females working with a third that just left as it was right before closing. However I didn't take note if they were hot or not...
