Maybe it could be done better, but the way it's being done is good enough, and the perfect is the enemy of the good, soooo I say go with it and fix it if problems crop up.

Track unique visits and bounce rates. See who's actually reading the blogs. Hell, even track RSS subscriptions.

On the topic of the blog, I think it's stupid to have this kind of a competition. You could easily make a video, post the link to it via your GR blog, and get a billion million hits.

Is this on a per blog or per user basis? IE: I maintain 2 blogs. I'd probably have to shoot for most hits in 1, right?

I believe it is per blog. In essence you would want to focus your good content in to one. I'm sure Kyle will clarify.

Yes, one blog. As far as I know multiple blogs will not be counter per user.

Sounds like a great deal in general... Gameriot is going to be filled with constant spam and troll blogs for every day in May.
I hope you "bloggers" think about the amount of time you will spend working on your blog if you attempt to compete (a new post every day at least), and realize that amount of potential prize money is absolutely not worth it.

Thats actually not true at all briyan and would be completely unnecessary. One high trafficked post absolutely dominates 5-10 blogs that get 200-500 hits each.
