Rumors, rumors, rumors, man I love rumors.   The latest news come courtesy of Game Informer magazine, issue 190.   In their Loose Change column they had the following to say:

"We're not talking about new DLC or a collection of previously available DLC, we're talking about a full retail game. We expect this title to follow the suit of previous GTAs and use a subtitle such as GTA: San Andreas, etc. Tokyo might be a possible setting for the game, but details are non-existent at this time."

A completely new GTA game this year?   Could it be so?   While they may not go full fledged on with a GTA 5 and instead focus on a subtitled version, a completely new game would be a nice 2009 bonus if they address the issues from GTA 4.

To be honest I would be highly surprised if this was accurate.   I'd take even odds that it doesn't.   Rockstar is working on two episodic expansions right now for the Xbox 360 including the upcoming "Lost and the Damned" due on February 17th.   Top that off with a whole new game and that is a lot of work to cram in one year.

I would assume the next title will use the same engine as GTA 4 with a few added tweaks which would save on quite a bit of dev time so it may not be entirely impossible.   Vice City came out a year after GTA 3; it wouldn't be totally unheard of.   The last one was in April and a December release could give them 18-19 months to get the game out.

So what do you guys think?   Will it happen?   What about locations?   Place your votes in the poll or comments.

Tokio wouldn't be the worst choice, because the city is so diverse with traditional narrow streets and wooden houses next to the modern downtown.. but I don't mind whether I mess through yet another American town, Europe or whatever. Paris would be cool though. Or Dubai.. "Ahmet! We have some trouble at Palm Jumeira! Don't let me down!"

and lol at the Texas comment

Would be great, GTA4 just had you screaming for more once you finished it.

As for the location... I dunno, I wouldn't really mind another Vice City or San Andreas tbh. They pulled off Liberty City for the fiftieth time with GTA4 so why not? Tokyo seems a little too much of a cluster**** to be playable if you ask me and I also think it would lack the multicultural crime scene we've seen in all the previous GTA's and probably limiting it just to Yakuza.

I've been playing Saints Row 2 this week to check it out and while it's obvious that GTA4 is quite a big deal better they have some nice features that I would love to see in the next GTA. Things like human shielding, picking up stuff in the environment to use as weapons and a pretty deep character customization (which doesn't seem to hurt the story aside from the fact that you're supposed to be the same guy from the original SR even though you can become a chick and basically anything you want). Basically, give back some of the freedom and awesome/fun things they took away in the SA -> GTA4 transition. The shooting should be made a little more difficult as well, I loved the shooting system in GTA4 but it was just too easy to pull off headshots and the only difference between a cheap ass handgun and a military assault rifle was the range on them.

For people that have been to or lived in Tokyo would probably be a cool thing for them, but for me no thanks.

Would rather have Chicago or Houston.   Western theme would be nice.  Almost wish they would update San Andreas- would be tight yo!

Bring back the jet pack, bmx bikes, 4 wheelers, go carts, properties, and better music.

To be honest though I wouldn't care where the next GTA game was set, with Rockstar behind it will be a purchase for sho.

Did you add me to XBL yet?  Gonna play the recently patched L4D tonight so I may not get on there at all.

And yes, I want more of the fun odds and ends stuff back.

Nah, did you send me an invite?  When are you getting Vegas 2?  I don't usually get on the Xbox until the weekend anyways.

What patch for L4D?
Pc patch, they did a lot of bug fixes as well as other versus changes and specific class changes. The smoker, for example, but a lot of much needed buffs, which really allows it to contend better with the other classes in terms of effectiveness.

I'd honestly love a remake of Vice City. By remake, I mean a whole new game and new story, but using the same layout, or at least a similar lay out of the city. To this day, Vice City is my favorite GTA game, and it'll probably stay that way. It'd be interesting to see the graphics of Vice City on a current gen console. It would probably look damn amazing, because even on a PS2/Xbox, it looked really good.

Haha, figured it would. I'd have to say it's in my top 5 of all time as well. Can't really think of a game that's made as big of an "Impact" so to speak, other than maybe WoW.

Tokyo would be: bad. ass. I can't think of a location I'd rather have for GTA. London would be a decent runner up though.

Texas for sure.

Why don't they set it in Australia? Could be forests, beaches and deserts all within 20 kms of each other.

Australia is just a big prison with aborigines and kangaroos wandering around outside, would be boring. soz m8
