October 10th 2008 will be the one year anniversary of the Orange Box and Half Life 2 Episode 2 release. Almost a full year and still no word from Valve in regards to the game. There are a couple of pieces of concept art here and here but that is all we have. There are no plot points, no general idea for a release date, no, nada, nothing.Episode 1 came out in June 2006, Episode 2 last October. In my ideal world we should at least have some sort of information by now.Â
What happened with the Combine Advisors? When will get to Aperture Science's Borealis ship? Are really going to have a chance to toy around with Portal technology in Episode 3? Does Gordon get to comfort Alyx in sack for her loss?
That doesn't even count all the Half Life answers we are waiting for in general. Who the f#@k is the G-Man? What is his connection to the Vortiguant and the Combine? Will Gordon ever talk and explain his hate for all things alien and go off living a life as a recluse?Â
The good news is Left 4 Dead will be out in a month and a half. L4D is probably the game taking up most of Valve's time as they help Turtle Rock wrap it up and get it ready for our trembling-zombie-shooting hands. Will we finally get some information on the long awaited conclusion to the Half Life 2 saga once Valve wraps up shop on the co-op zombie shooter?Â
Your fans are waiting Valve, throw us a bone already.Â

I am starting to think they are going to announce a new engine with all this lack of episodic announcement.

That would totally shock me. All their interviews of the past few months has them commenting that the Source engine is a continuously updated platform and they imply it is going to be around for some time.
Could just be blowing smoke up our *****, but you never know. If they go with a new engine I would expect it around Half Life 3 time.

I highly doubt they will produce a new engine for ep3. TBH the source engine is still an amazing engine when it comes to graphics and display. Not to mention how flexible it is with upgrades (if you witnessed the evolution of the engine between HL2, EP1, and EP2, youd see what i mean.)
Not to mention it STILL has the absolute best lip syncing tech in the world...I think source still has a lot of life left

Like I said, I pretty much agree with. Just if they did, logically it would probably be after ep3, not for ep3. But I dont see it happening any time soon.

For sure. As far as a HL3 happening, thats pretty hard to think of. In all likelyhood Valve might pull an MGS4 and wrap up every loose end with EP3. Granted i would murder someone for them to continue the series (its probably my all time favorite series in gaming right now) but I would understand if they ended it with EP3.
Moving on though, the more I think of it, the more im not suprised they havent released any information. There are a ton of amazing games on the horizon right now, either soon to release or recently announced. I think EP3 info would be better released when things calm down a bit, that way it will be the sole focus of a majority of the gaming community. As it is now, any EP3 news would have to compete with the imminent Fallout 3 coverage, Gears 2 information, Warhammer extended coverage, Starcraft 2/Diablo 3 news, Wrath of the Lich King, etc.
Things are crowded and hectic right now in the gaming world. Imo its best for Valve to hold their cards close to their chest for now.

Valve has already confirmed there will be Half Life stories after Ep3. In what format, no. But they have implied the Freeman story isn't over, and confirmed there would be more Half Life.Â
I have a feeling come early next year we will hear something for a possibly summer release. Just my hunch.

I don't think they'd make a new engine for ep.3 but for the next half life. They can't run with their current engine forever. And it's going to take them quite a long time to develop it, probably wouldn't even be completed for another 2-3 years - but I think the announcement is coming.

Pump your ******* brakes. I have a feeling Left 4 Dead is going to take up a pretty big slot in a lot of people's gaming schedule. HL can wait.
Slap, you have one month to create, manage, and train a full GR l4d team. Look lively, sir!

If it weren't for L4D this probably would have been a out right *****ing post. I am so stoked for that game that I am giving Valve a tentative pass on not quite hitting their little over a year schedule.Â
I definitely need a few good men to smash the crap out of some zombie skulls. My TF2 is slowly winding down in anticipation of L4D.

I've yet to prime my ladyfriend for the stream of girl-screams and obscenity strewn tirades that L4D will no doubt bring.
I wonder if faction will be playing?

I warned my GF that the next two months could be rough. Rock Band 2, 2K9, GHWT, L4D, little big planet, Fallout 3, Dead Space, Resistance 2...
Too little money and too little time, lol.

I don't think HL3 engine is gonna come out for like another 2-3 years at least. But I would think they'd announce somewhat ahead of release.

I know I know, I am just sad that my computer barley handles games on the source engine. When I played CSS at home, the only map I played was d2 because I got the best fps there...and that ain't sayin much.
I tweaked my WoW video settings enough to cap at 40 fps. :/

I hope the game just appears out of the blue one day, and surprises us all. That would be ******* epic.
