I don't think I have ever seen a string of success like this since EA was in their prime pissing people off weekly.  Somehow Infinity Ward has taken one of the most anticipated game launches of the year and managed to drop a deuce all over it forcing a lot of people to question how much **** they want to put up with to play the game.

I question if it is possible to botch a release of a game that is pretty much assured of being a massive success.  There is little doubt in my mind that the game will be one of the top selling titles of the year across all platforms as the game is one of the few highly anticipated FPS titles of the year and it is a sequel to the much-loved Modern Warfare.

Let us look at the recent onslaught of screw-ups in just the past could of weeks in relation to Modern Warfare 2:
  • Removal of PC dedicated servers
  • The "kill innocents as a terrorist video"
  • "F.A.G.S. and *******", the anti-grenade spam clip
  • Preventing XBL users from using party chat in various multiplayer modes
  • Locking mulitiplayer in at 9v9 on the PC
What is next?  Some hidden form of DRM on the PC that will send gamers to IW headquarters trampling staff in protest?  Maybe the rumors of charging for online play will come true causing our heads to explode in bewilderment.

I am half laughing about this as it almost seems like a test in regards to the game's hype and the communities overall desire to buy and play it.  Had other lesser titles or developers done all the above in the "airing of grievances" I have a feeling it would affect their bottom line when it comes to sales and profits.  Will it effect this game?  I think the effect will be minimal.

For some reason it seems Infinity Ward is testing how far they can push everyone by molding the game in their image and not that of their prospective buyers who will actually buy the game.  That to me is a bit disheartening considering the fans invested in these games and that have supported the developers over the long haul.

The reality is where would Infinity Ward be without the adoration and support from their customers?  They would probably be worse off than Treyarch as the latter wouldn't have IW's success to leech off of.  Yet at this point they don't seem to give a damn about all the negative feedback they are receiving.

Infinity Ward has laid down the gauntlet for potential customers and fans.  Are you going to support their actions from this point forward or will the buck literally stop here and you spend your dollars elsewhere?  Voice your opinions accordingly.

All of us HC gamers can ***** and whine all day, we'll still buy the game. The only question is if we make it a guilty pleasure or not.

Well none of these things have actually made me mad.  Actually none of it even bothers me.  Removing PC dedicated servers, I really don't care, as long as there is a way to play private games, which I do believe they've said there is.  Kill innocents as a terrorist, whatever.  I've played every single COD but I have never touched any of its singleplayer.  Grenade spam?  Well it is pretty much on the high scale of ******dom.  Locking at 9v9?  **** I'd lock it at 6v6 if I had it my way.

The 9v9 kind of bothers me as I like my multiplayer 24-32 generally.  Now I don't know how this game would play at those limits but as much as people complain about grenade spam as it is those higher numbers could be a complete mess.

This is coming from someone who hardly played any COD4 MP, so I can't fully evaluate the 9v9.

I usually play team tactical, which is 3v3. While some maps are too big for 3v3, I prefer it to 6v6. I don't like big teams unless it's big maps with vehicles and what not, like halo or battlefield.

I can understand how it irritates you being a fan of larger play.  I've just never been a fan of big battles in any game I play.  I guess locking it is kind of a weird move, and while I support the folks that like a bigger number in their FPS battles I just can't build any sort of anger on it.  IW would really have to do some stupid **** to make me mad, such as cash shops for guns or something.  However even these days I'm starting to become numb and apathetic to those type of moves as it is happening more and more.

I totally understand that some games aren't meant to be played at high numbers, often because of map sizes or what not but locking those options even on bigger maps will surely disappoint some people.

To me if it is fun either way I won't care that much.  Sometimes though with the right maps and 16v16 in some games it is utter chaos and I thrive in those kinds of situations =p

24-32 peeps is a spamathon. Generally lower skill and IQ is required for it.

Just saying...

Yes,  with a console you can sit on a couch with a beer and enjoy the gaming experience.  With a key board and mouse you can mimic being in an office setting using work tools for gaming.

Maybe upgrade from the lawn chair if you want to 'enjoy the gaming experience' on your PC.

I guess in the end it's all personal preference though, some people just aren't that competitive when they game so having a handicap like using a controller doesn't matter, I hate it personally. It would be like me trying to golf left handed instead of right, the sport itself is still fun but I wouldn't be having any myself.

More on the topic though the only thing that's a deal-breaker on that list is the removal of dedicated servers, for the same reason. I refuse to play with 200-300ms on a server hosted by some random, instead of 20-30ms on a dedicated chicago server.

On a positive note, the single player should still be welll worth the DL.

Its not about having a handicap or being competitive.  For me its about playing with friends and being comfortable.  Even when I was a kid I hated using a keyboard for pc games- I actually bought some flat directional game pad for playing x-wing and doom 2.  You can be competitive when playing on the console too.  You can compare to driving a stick shift and an auto trans to a pc and a console.  Easy to play a console and drive an auto trans vehicle. I don't tell people that can't drive a stick shift they are handicapped, even though the driving experience when driving a stick on a sports car or sports sedan or sports compact is a much better experience.  Auto trans are easier to drive and user friendly, nothing wrong with that, at least they can drive.  Can also compare a manual trans to driving a car with a paddle shift system, anyone can drive a paddle shifter and much harder to drive a manual- its a persons choice either way.  Me, I work on a computer all day for my job, I try to stay away from it at home and jump on the big screen to play games on the sex box.

The mouse/keyboard combination is infinitely better for FPS games, there is little doubt about it.  Plus you toss in the fact that almost every console FPS title uses some sort of auto-aim/bullet guidance it really makes it noob friendly.  M/K is far more accurate as well.  With an analog stick to control crosshair locations which is prone to over-aiming, and movement based on the game's speed of relocating them.  With a mouse you are only limited to how fast you can move your hand, adjust sensitivity, etc.

Still sucks.  Couch, big screen, wireless remote, beer next to me with a plate of chips greater than a work chair with a work monitor and work key board and mouse, ewwwwwwwwww.

There was no "wahhhh"ing there.  This wasn't a debate about skill or the difficulties is adapting, it was purely technical.  The technical superiority of a mouse over an analog stick is a given.  If you can't see that then you very well may be delusional, or even bias.

A mouse allows for faster and more precise aiming because it isn't regulated by the speed of the turning within the engine.

If you can't understand then I'd say "play more" but that clearly isn't helping your cause so far.  :)

If you want to talk keyboard we can as well.  29 some buttons available for customization for simply one hand vs what, 14 on the 360 across two hands?

Omg, are you serious? I'm betting you don't even have good enough PC to play COD4 properly...

The difference pad vs mouse+keyboard is huge. By technical means, on pad you will never achieve the reaction time and aim while using the mouse. Doesn't matter how godlike you are, you will still be less efficient on a pad.

It's mind boggling that people still can't wrap their heads around that - or maybe it's only true for americans.. Here in europe, we play FPS games properly :P (well.. at least most of us).

The difference is actually quite simple.

On an analogue stick, you define an acceleration. On a mouse, you define a position. Guess which is faster and more precise.

they pretty much killed any competitive future for MW2 on the PC

1. No recording
2. No leaning (lol???)
3. No dedicated servers
4. No console
5. No mod tools

02:05 Axen Please explain how a 9v9 match is a multiplayer experience? I'd have more fun serving lunch at a local nursing home.
