The day has finally come; some justice for an over zealous, lawsuit loving attorney in Florida.  Jack Thompson can no longer practice law.

Thompson is a long time hater of Grand Theft Auto and basically any game that doesn't sit well with his morals.  He feels GTA is a cop killing simulator and is preparing our youth to wreck havoc on the work.

A few months back I mentioned the fact that in September he could be facing disbarment for 10 years thanks to continued misconduct according to the Florida 11th Circuit Court.  Today the state's Supreme Court ruled and they agreed with the 11th Circuit Court and hold up their ruling to disbar him for 10 years.

If you want to read the full court decision download it here.

According to GamePolitics, the action, which takes effect in 30 days, means that Thompson will no longer be licensed to practice law and may not apply for reinstatement. Ever.

Jack isn't going to take this lying down however and has already filled an emergency motion to stay the decision so he can continue practicing.

Sometimes life is grand.  I always like to think people get their just desserts in due time and this is one of those moments.  Hopefully this is the end of his law sessions, though I somehow doubt this will stop his war cry to fight against gaming.

I read your blog.  Whether you believe this lawyer's point made about GTA or not, he speaks some truth.  In the early World Wars, USA had trouble with their soldiers being willing to kill the enemy.  Their solution was creating target dummies to resemble people and enemy soldiers.  After a few years, solders began to give up any reluctance  and would kill on demand.  Take this a few decades into the present and there are few problems with troops killing the enemy.  If you were to correlate this into today's society and mental state, one could draw a similar conclusion... which is probably what the lawyer was doing.  Anywho, just thought you'd like to know that history lesson.

He isn't getting disbarred for his view points, hes getting disbarred for his misconducts and ethical violations of the Florida bar association.

So then games like NBA NHL NFL and the likes, should be good because they make kids into pro sports players right?

When I play GT or WRC, I suddenly become a pro driver capable of handling the highest end of race cars.

There are always going to be idiots who watch movies, read books, play games etc who cant handle themselves and go and try to mimic it in real life. Those people are not the norm, they are the exception.

I have killed probably 10s of 1000s of people in online games, yet I would never want to hurt anyone in real life, unless my life or anothers life was being threatened.

I was in court last week (not on charges). 99% of the punks there, looked like they just stepped out of a hip hop video, low baggy pants, big jewelery, hats turned to the side, jerseys, the whole 9 yards. No one there looked like they were a game nerd....

Ya I have heard that lesson many times.  But it isn't just GTA that draws his ire.  He has tried pinning stupid cases on the WWE when this kid brutally and maliciously beat to near death a little girl his mom was babysitting.  Tried to blame it on "violent wwe wrestling" because the kid watched a few times in the past.

He does all sorts of things like this.  Laying blame elsewhere when personal responsibility is involved.

Kill on demand. Demand being the keyword here. As long as no one demands them to kill, they won't kill, even if playing video games made them able to pull a trigger without any hesitation. Even if someone does demand them to kill, the problem lies right there, and not at the videogame that supposedly made them a cold blooded assassin (lol). Besides that, there are far more graphical movies available nowadays.

Also, you can't compare soldiers to regular nobodies. A soldier is in scenarios where it's life or death, if you can't pull a trigger at that point there is something wrong and something should be done to make that unlikely to happen, and so they did. A random videogamer who just played GTA for 5 hours will not kill someone so easily unless his own life depends on it, even if someone demands him to. If his own life DOES depend on it, and having played GTA will remove any hesitation to defend himself with lethal means in that case, then more power to video games tbh.
JT has basically been spewing out bull**** about GTA for a long time, and trying to blame murders that really have nothing to do with gaming on GTA. Half of the stuff he talks about is purely made up.

Seriously though, I played **** like Manhunt and Soldier of Fortune, and I would not ever be able to kill someone unless my own life or the life of people I care about depend on it. Just the thought of having the memory of having killed a man who grew up as an innocent little boy just like you scares the **** out of me. Blaming video games for murders is insanely retarded. It's like blaming cars for the death of someone even though there was a drunk **** behind the steering wheel. Video games might make it easier to kill people, but in the end the idea of killing someone comes from other things.

Interesting.  I was not alive during the early World Wars so not to sure on the attitude people had about human life or "killing the enemy."  You must have done research and I'll take your statements as true.

Nowadays if there is a firefight we shoot at basically anything that moves- women, children, men, women holding children, etc.  Happened in Somalia because the dumb **** civies never got out of the way.  One thing Black Hawk Down did not show in the movie is all the women and children that got popped.  Same thing with Blackwater.  Once a gun fight starts anything that moves is targeted.

Taxed- is there any links to your comments that delve deeper into this subject?  Interesting stuff.

The guy who wrote about this conditioning was later proven to be a fraud. He was only recently found out, but it invalidates a lot of the "training to desensitivity" argument.

I am a little surprised a guy with his level of professionalism or lack thereof persisted even as long as he did.  I am not sure a permanent ban will hold (it may get knocked down to a suspension), I am not that familiar with the facts nor the bar of Florida though.

He feels he is above the law.  There is audio of the decision from the 11th Circuit Court back in June, and he just oozes assholerly.  He has no respect for authority, especially those that grant him the ability to do what he does.

This was a long time coming.  Surely it wont be the last of him, and he will probably con some other clown lawyer to be his proxy in court.  But it is a start.

Perhaps we can email him the URL to GR =) We could invite him to make a blog here, under false pretenses that this is a mature gaming crowd and that we only want have both sides of the coin represented here.

Once his blog is posted you can unban Tokesh, Faction and unleash the rest of the trolls here to tear him to shreds! Would be awsome publicity for GR.
