It seems EA boss John Riccitiello has confirmed a Knights of the Old Republic MMO is in the works! Wow, now this is some huge news.Â
Here is the quote:"We've got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development," said Riccitiello. The first title, based on the Warhammer property, will launch soon. "And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about -- in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it."
"Does Riccitiello mean the oft rumored Knights of the Old Republic Online? "Yes," he said."
I may be buying my first MMO when this hits. Bioware and Lucasarts working on a MMO during one of my favorite periods of Star Wars lore is awesome. I would probably rather have a direct KOTOR 2 sequel, but this could be pretty sweet. I really wanted to continue the whole story and see where things lead to next. It is much harder to get quality story out of a MMO that a narrative based story.Â
If anyone can have success in this field I hope it is Bioware and that they may side step the issues that befell SOE and Star Wars Galaxies.
Is this the kind of game that would pull you away from WoW?Â

It has been in bold since I posted it.

Oh hell yes. If there was any MMO that could get me away from WoW it was KOTOR. **** YES.

Star Wars nerds around the world rejoice. Everyone else sighs with the realization that this is going to be a ****ty game no matter what IP they base it on.

The jump to MMO is tough for any developer.
As for specifics with this IP, as well, there are so many nerd-fans with so many built-up ideas and expectations about Star Wars that it will feel disappointing no matter what they do. I would love to see something great but 95% chance it will be lackluster.

Blizzard did well, and I'd put Bioware on their same level.
They could make the greatest game of all time that has 100 million subscribers and there will still be masses of star wars fanboys *****ing about how dissapointing the game is. Worrying about pleasing them is the very last thing they should do

Agreed. They should make an accessible game like WoW but keep the importance of the dynamic storyline and strong characterization that made the other KOTOR games good.

THANK YOU GOD
Unless KOTOR is as bad as AoC I'll be quitting WoW for it. But I actually think Bioware can do a good job so I'm not worried

I figured you would dig this Jaina. Though for a guy, I still think it is a big odd you have a female's handle on here, lol.

I wouldn't mind seeing her Wookie... or is it a Sarlacc Pit?
I don't think I would give a damn.

Seriously. It could eat my **** away with acid and I'd still look back on the encounter with fond memories.

great news, as a kotor fan and swg vet this has got my hopes up.
for the record Mass Effect was better then the KOTORs but they are both amazing, bioware does really great games.

I had exactly the same thing as Riddler, the game loses a lot of momentum as you run into the midsection. Still definitely worth playing though.

Don't waste time with too many of the side quests. The main story only takes about a day to play through. You could probably spend 10 times that doing side quests, there's so many.
The gameplay itself is a refreshing change from other rpg's but it will start to get old after you play through the game a few times. The best part is the story, as should be the best part of any great rpg, I'd rank the story as one of the greatest of all time.
I'm honestly in shock that anyone could have played through mass effect and not loved it, everyone I know that played it through thought it was amazing. In my opinion it's the best story since ff7, which is hard to compare to because ff7 is like 20 times longer.

Played mass effect and did tons of side missions and loved it the entire time. Great game, though I found the targeting a bit annoying at times. Other than that, and the fact that once you get the spectre weapons there's no point at all in keeping the other guns you get, are my only real complaints about the game.

The first time I laid eyes on Neverwinter Nights, it was love at first sight.
Ever since then, Bioware has done nothing but make incredible games.
This one will not be any different.

first of all, mass effect did fail in a way
i dont think thats really up for questioning,it was talked up to be more than it really was - the whole hundereds of worlds thing - which were basically copy + paste. the game , strictly fallowing the story is quite good, but again still quite long and hard to finish.
but you cannot deny, mass effect as a story is nothing short of brilliant. if you bothered to read the novel prequel to the game, and played it through, the story is genius. easily comparable to all of the top fantasy sci fi worlds in scope and depth.
however, a kotor mmo? if they really think about it and play there cards right, this will be the last game i ever play.
one downside to the path they have taken, is that - and im assuming here - that they have been in production since the opening of the austin studio , in which case they have not taken advice from there consumers, and as much as i trust in bioware, its about time some mmo developers listened to there ******* community in real time and make changes accordingly. im sure theres a lot of kids/nerds/geeks/genius's out there with some really great ideas that could be implemented to make this mmo a true competitor to wow (and lets be serious here guys, if they actually get the ball rolling, wow is going to feel it)
i think what a lot of people dont understand is how many people there are out there who play other mmo's / computer games that simply dont like wow - and theres a lot - that would play a star wars mmo , not to mention all the wow veterans who would jump ship given the opportunity of greener pastures.
im all for it whether it fails or not, because if you take a step back, you can see yourselves clearly impaled on blizzards giant throbbing black pole. theres nothing after getting geared up, after getting gladiator season after season. they will add more seasons of the same thing, more encounters of the same kind.
i cant remember whos blog it was, but we do play this game as a social activity, if bioware gets the ball rolling with some quality gameplay , pretty much everyone will jump ship once there friends do.
