Love or hate it, Madden is a massive success in the gaming world.  Two years ago was one of the worst editions ever.  2008 was terrible.  I almost didn't buy '09 last year because of this but thankfully it actually improved quite a bit.  Needless to say with the addition of Jay Cutler and Orlando Pace and hopefully a receiver tomorrow I am excited to get under center with my Chicago Bears.

Above is the debut trailer, courtesy of Gametrailers and Peter "I used to work at Xbox" Moore.  The gang tackles are looking pretty good but on the surface not a lot of things stand out.  You can check out some of the new features via the game's Wiki.

I really like this new depth of field graphical enhancement that they are using now which you can read about on the EA blog.  Basically things front and center are more in focus than things that aren't unlike past games where everything was just as sharp just further away.  Plus the additions of sim style gameplay and realistic player momentum should be a nice addition.

Of course we can't forget the new cover athletes.  The first time ever for two players at once:

I enjoy the college game more, so I mostly go with NCAA.  Its pretty much the same game with different offenses and minor tweaks. The one thing I saw on the comments page to the trailer is how scripted tackles is something that should be moved away from.  A better physics engine in this game would be a blast to play with.

It would be more realistic, more fun (especially seeing a 300 pound lineman run over a db), and just a better game in general if the physics engine was upgraded.

I am hoping these "momentum" upgrades will have some bearing on that but yes, the physics could use a bit of work.  I used to play NCAA quite a bit back in the day but with all the games I play now days and then the big games I get like Madden, it just gets pushed to the back burner.  =/

The great thing about modern NCAA games is custom imported rosters now which allow for actual players, that is a big plus in my book.

Its always fun tackling a player behind the line of scrimmage, but pushing them through 4 people due to scripted tackling for the first down!

It would make a lot more enjoyable game to see players moving like they should, after contact.

I watched the Video before and thought that those were scripted tackles.  Taking another look at it, I see additional players coming in after initial contact and effecting the tackle.  Hopefully thats whats really happening and not having pro-tak mean "more scripted tackles."

Anything is better than watching Priests and Rogues dominate 2v2 at the moment. I'd prefer Pac Man to losing to players 100 times worse than myself.

Madden 08 was so ******* bad lol. After trying 09 at a friends I knew it was leaps and bounds better than 08. Played a ton online ****ting on idiots with T.O. or running ridiculously wild with the Titans and Cowboys.

After watching the Blackhawks I was seriously thinking about getting a hockey game.

NHL 09 was one of the best games of 08. I've played it a lot more than any other title.

If I was a bigger hockey fan, I'd probably pick it up.  It generally gets very positive reviews and plays pretty well.

my dear sir, I will not deny the greatness of 2k sports football.  I wish Madden wouldnt have gotten exclusive rights as 2k kept them on their toes.

Maybe they should move production up to EA Canada? They do the NHL/FIFA series which are usually pretty amazing.
