Frustration and praise all in one day, this is your life Capcom.

Hot on the heals of the news about RE5's multiplayer comes Capcom talking about more HD Remix titles.  Not content with Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Puzzle Fighter 2 remixed in high-definition style Capcom has plans for more titles in the HD treatment.

What games exactly?  Well they aren't talking yet.  However it is well known at Capcom that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is one of the most desired titles according to all the fan requests.  Capcom's VP of business development Christian Svensson stated that MvC2  "would be great to do".  SSF2THDR was a smashing success becoming the #1 downloaded console game last year.  You have know with Capcom that if it is going to make them money they are interested.

MvC2 is highly sought after for a few reasons.  Of course it had a massive and fantastic roster of characters from the Marvel and Capcom worlds.  It also is very expensive on the secondary market thanks to a high demand and low supply as Capcom lost the Marvel license shortly after release and the game's production run wasn't all that high.  A quick scan of Ebay completed auctions shows the title still selling for $60-120 with the PS2 generally selling for the highest prices.  That is a lot of lost money on the second hand market that Capcom could cut in to with a digital rerelease.

Of course there quite a few other titles I wouldn't mind seeing done in HD Remix style as well.  Resident Evil 2 comes to mind, one of my favorite RE titles ever.  Strider could be pretty awesome, I always enjoyed that game on the Genesis.

Your choices for HD Remixes?

Wait, so they need to renegotiate their license with Marvel before it could even be considered?

Strider would be awesome.

Ghouls N Ghosts would be cool too.

hell, Ghouls N Ghosts was hard.

I am not quite how that works.  If they stopped production of the old discs according to the rumors, they may need to re-up the license at least for a one time deal.  However I have never actually confirmed that the print run was low, that is just something I have always heard.

So maybe they have the rights to re-release their own game as long as they aren't taking liberties with new characters, etc.

I managed to snag a ROM of the arcade version, fun as hell. Good to see that they might bring it back, that was probably one of the most fighter's I've played.

I was never good at the game but it was highly addicting. Expecting nerfs Magneto and Cable if Capcom decides to make it.

Probably have to pay an extra 10 bucks for multiplayer.

They updated the MvC2 licensing for the Xbox360 a while back, so it's basically only a matter of time. And on an even brighter note, the game isn't balanced at all and doesn't even pretend to be, so they can just redo the graphics and not worry about having to find someone as nitpicky as Sirlin to redo the balance.

I don't know that they did.  I haven't seen any confirmation.  The only news that I've seen leak out is was info at the ESRB http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3170600  that has since disappeared.

Yeah, the ESRB thing was what I was referring to. They'd be insane not to do it, honestly - despite all the imbalance and stupidity it's still the most popular arcade fighting game (maybe SF4 will dethrone it, but it's got a lot of work to do), and those remixes are cheap as **** compared to making a new game.

EJ speaks truth.....its almost 10 years old and it's still extremely popular, it's probably the last "great" fighting game that the arcades will ever see that had such a dominating presence as MvC2.

It does suck that Capcom doesn't realize how much of a cash cow this is.....
I'd personally take a MvC3 over an HD remake of part 2 just because it would be new/fresh after almost 10 years of the same stuff that could be improved upon (HD sprites please).

Why would the ps2 version go more than the unaltered Dreamcast version? That was the perfect version compared to the ps2 and xbox versions....

I never said it was not popular, it isn't the most popular though.

It got by far the most entrants at EVO, and it consistently makes the most money for the shop at both Arcade Infinity in SoCal and China Fair in NY. I'm not really sure what other metric for popularity you're looking for.

You're talking about north america, I'm talking worldwide. The japs don't even play it casually let alone on a pro level.

Probably because of the massive install base of the PS2.  There definitely is a premium going on for the PS2 version though.
