There is a new Zelda game on the way as I mentioned during a E3 wrap-up. Not much is known about the title though we can guess there will be Link, Zelda, a sword, bow and arrow, bombs and a boomerang. Being on the Wii you can count on some motion controls too. I know I am really reaching here but I have to be able to guess at least one thing, right?Talking to Nintendo Power in a post E3 interview Shigeru Miyamoto gave us a little bit to go on regarding the upcoming Zelda title which we expect to be out sometime near the holiday season in 2010. Miyamoto told them:
“I don’t think it’s going to be that radically different.”
Surprise! The one time the series really strayed was with Wind Waker. The game was still critically well received but critics and fans alike panned the constant sailing which became complete tedious. You stick with what works it seems and Miyamoto realizes that.
Besides the above tidbit the only other concrete info we have is the picture up and to the right. It shows the more mature Link, similar to the one shown off before Wind Waker that had everyone drooling. Who or what that the female'esque thing in front of Link is up in the air. It almost looks like a statue. Is it a creature, a human, something frozen as a statue thanks to the gem? Your guess is as good as mine.
Miyamoto has confirmed the use of MotionPlus controls which should be a big plus for this built-from-the-ground-up Wii title (not the Gamecube, like Twilight Princess). Less waggle and more epic sword fighting in your living room should be a nice selling factor.
The good thing is motion controls can't replicate crawling around on all fours so if we have transformations this time around you should be able to avoid any embarrassing moments with girlfriends or roommates walking in.

Have only ever played Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker. Great series though, one of the best of all time.

Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past are in their own league. All other zelda games are fine but not even close to these two.

I only played through OoT a couple times and I loved how solid they stuck to the same elements that made the series great. However, MM was a vast improvement as far as side story and puzzle play. LttP was so fun to play through, even though there was only 1 route to take, I enjoyed playing it over and over. Also, you can't **** on the original or else none of the rest would be here.
1) Majora's Mask
2) Link to the Past
3) Zelda 1
4) OoT
5) Windwaker
6) Zelda 2
7) Everything else I didn't mention because I didn't play any others.

While it is nice that they don't fix what ain't broke and stick with what works, the flip side of that is that Zelda games anymore are getting to be repetitive in my opinion. You go through the game and 50% of the items you get are the same items you get in every single Zelda game. A lot of the puzzles can get pretty repetitive as well.
While I didn't like Majora's Mask all that much I definitely have a healthy respect for the innovative game play and progression mechanics of the game. It was something similar and yet very different from the previous games in the series. I just feel like I need something a little different to spice up the whole experience and make it feel fresh again.
Also one console game I haven't seen mentioned yet is OoT: Master Quest (or master edition? something like that). The one you got with, I believe, the preorder of Windwaker with the revamped dungeons. That was BY FAR the most difficult dungeoning I have ever experienced playing a zelda game. I had played through OoT numerous times but I literally spent 4-6 hours trying to get through dungeons I had cleared countless times in the regular game. I wouldn't mind seeing another game done in this style (maybe re-doing LttP dungeons? Probably harder to increase the difficulty of 2D dungeons compared to the 3D games though?). Or maybe in their next zelda game you can unlock hardmode after you beat the game initially or have some difficult-to-achieve stipulations to unlock hard mode.
One last thing. I hadn't got around to playing Phantom Hourglass for the DS. Is it worth playing through? Was thinking of picking it up used and cheap.

Master quest wasn't too bad I've done a full clear myself, but it def was a good challenge and a lot of fun. Then again I have run through classic OoT like ~6 times.
I think you got Master quest for buying it for like 5-10 bucks or something like that, but you got collectors edition with majoras mask and the oldies for preorder if I remember correctly.

There will definitely be a hookshot in there as well. The best part of Twilight Princess was getting the 2nd hookshot and swinging through the dungeon like spiderman.

really wish they would just update OoT's graphics and re-release it. still the most amazing game i've ever played.

OoT and LttP are the same game when viewed as a whole as far as I'm concerned. 3 Dungeons in light world 3 dungeons as a kid. Followed by a bunch of dungeons in dark world and a bunch of dungeons as an adult in a dark-looking world. OoT was basically LttP with updated graphics and recreated in a 3D environment.
I know it sounds like I'm knockin' OoT here and I don't mean to be. It was definitely one of the greatest and most epic gaming experiences I've had and I love it to death. Just trying to prove my point above about the Zelda franchise becoming repetitively stagnant.

I would have zero issues with this. OoT, GoldenEye and FF7 are like my holy grails of remakes.

Nah, I love it, and I've beat both quests many times, but it just isn't as good as OoT or LttP. Easily one of the best NES ever however.
