Midway be damned. The publishers financial woes are having little bearing on the status of the next Mortal Kombat game. Midway is going through chapter 11 bankruptcy and currently accepting bids for the company's assets including the MK franchise. Warner Brothers is the only known bid at this point for 33 million.
The good news Mortal Kombat 9 (not titled that) is in the works and Ed Boon announced the following on his Twitter:
"U r absolutely right. People want an M-rated MK....dammit we will give them an M-rated MK.”
So it's back to tradition with the Mortal Kombat series featuring brutal kills, blood, gore and the whole works I imagine. While Mortal Kombat vs. DC wasn't a bad game by any means, the fighting system as actually pretty solid, the game lacked that reliable "edge" the series typically maintained. Boon jokes, "MK9: Attack of the Nuns: Get in the Habbit " will be the next entry's title. Killing some nuns would actually be a bit out there but don't expect this to come to fruition. His most recent update earlier today says:
"I think players are definitely going to get the "warm & fuzzies" when they see, hear, play & "discover" the next MK."
Glad to hear it Boon. Most of us wanted this with the last entry but if the solid sales from the previous game helped get this next entry done then so be it. Hopefully besides "warm & fuzzies" we get some innovation as well. A good balance of tradition and innovation is the key to a solid MK game. Thoughts on the next MK game?

I played some MK Trilogy last weekend for the good ole N64. Would really be nice to see a viable competitor to SF4 added to my library.

Pretty much went down hill after that. Hopefully they get back to the old days. Really curious what engine they will be using.

I wasn't a fan of MK vs DC. Fighting system wasn't bad but it just lacked some awesome factor I was used to from old school MK games.
This bit of news seems a step (back) in the right direction.

Need to have a fight finish move: rip off the head and **** down the neck, then I'll buy.
