Like a good news man I made sure to turn in live to G4 TV tonight to be able to bring you the news fresh off the presses. The episode will be up on Gametrailers.com later tonight.
Here is the direct link to the video
At this point it doesn't sound like it is in development. If anything they are in the early stages. They mentioned the big question they are asking at Valve is do we build a new game or update what we have out there so far. The semi consensus seems to be starting from scratch.
Gabe told GT TV that it wouldn't be in the "orange'r box", I.E. the release of Episode 3.
GT TV: "will that orange'r box potentially contain a Counter Strike 2"
Gabe: "No"
But Valve did insist they are very committed to Counter Strike. They also mentioned that it would not have the art style of Team Fortress 2.
They are also showing a ton of Left 4 Dead footage which looks incredible. The Witch looks like the girl from The Exorcist with less clothes and more boney; wicked to say the least.
Goldrush is being shown also, the next Team Fortress 2 map. Robin Walker mentions it is in the style of the Hunted with the whole escort concept. Though of course you aren't escorting a person but a mine cart. Hopefully this game play style will eventually lead to a new version of the Hunted.

Yeah, I saw that. There was a little bit of interesting language used, as you mentioned ... how they were (paraphrasing here) "leaning towards the more radical two options" -- which would be remaking the whole thing from scratch instead of reskinning it, redoing the box and putting it out there.
I definitely agree with your assessment ... seems like early development, at best. Probably still just a concept. Although it seems like they're dedicated to the idea. Who knows, maybe the popularity of a game like CoD4 would motivate them to push up the timetable because their new product wouldn't be competing with an old version of itself as directly.

Just wanted to say that this was on SpikeTV and the program itself is called GT TV and has no relation with G4TV except for the fact the host use to be on the Electric Playground show on G4TV. (and other shows as a guest)
But yea for now i highly doubt much news about CS2 will be coming out, but i hope for the best :P (and hopefully something that doesnt require so much graphic capability but i know this is unlikely)

Good catch. I think that is where I slipped up. I was watching it, knew it was on spike, but for some reason I got to thinking about the host and being on G4. =p
Personally I hope they do go all out with a nice engine and graphics. Not Crysis like demanding, but something better. Not everyone is playing CS on 6 year old PCs with Pentium 3's and 256MB of RAM.

true and i guess my thinking is that there is just something you love able seeing the basic textures and silly things you can do in the older style games that i kinda dont want to leave it behind, but maybe thats just a personal problem

That's what I call being incredibly vague.
Sometimes, I adore it when John Carmack comes out and lays everything out. It drums up alot of excitement in me, where this Portal2/CS2 is just like... so incredibly vague that I have absolutely no interest in it.
Whatever, guess we'll see it when it comes out.
