Burger's win ended Fuentes' eight-tournament win streak, the longest since last August, when Fuentes won eight in a row. The difference in the streaks was the games (the current streak was Brawl, the past one was Melee).
The tournament weekend ended on a positive note for Burger. A day earlier at a 31-person tournament in Rancho Cucamonga, he decided to split the winnings with the two players still alive in the tournament: Danny Mejia and David Chavez. At that tournament, Burger was 4-0 needing just one more win to take home the title.
Seven days earlier at a competition at Family Fun Arcade in Granada Hills, he almost wasn't allowed to compete because of the 64-player cap set by the tournament organizers. But someone backed out at the last moment, and Burger filled in, eventually taking fourth.
Meanwhile, Fuentes has now reportedly lost three matches in his past four tournaments (the statistic isn't confirmed because one of tournaments does not have match totals available). In the five events before that, he went untouched playing with his secondary character Marth.
