I'm on the fence about Lucario.
The Pokemon representative is just ... weird.
A lot of his attacks are really good. I just found it somewhat difficult for me to pick up this character and start playing him.

I think it might have been because of his jumps. He had a different way about his gravity.
Also, his down-B, which is much like Marth's parry attack, threw me off a little bit because I tried to figure out when it was successful and when it wasn't.
But after a few hours playing Lucario, I found some flow. I really like his side-B, especially since it can substitute as a grab.
The one thing that seems to get the most attention is his ability to grow stronger as he takes in damage. It appears that winning the first stock in a match will be very key.

A few days ago, I asked San Diego player Michael Guy his thoughts about Lucario. He used him in team play at a tournament in the city and had some success.
Guy was a Pokemon user in Melee (Jigglypuff) and was on the verge of reaching the Southern California's Top 25 Power Rankings. So what made Lucario so enticing? He talks about it in the audio interview below.

Lucario's down+b is kind of a crappy redux of Marth's parry. It only intercepts attacks from the front, and the downtime seems a bit longer than Marth's. On the other hand, the knockback is pretty damn impressive. Honestly I haven't used him that much. I've been too focused on perfecting my air game with Kirby and trying to find some new combos with R.O.B.

I'm definitely going to be an avid Lucario user in the future -- I can't stand playing with Olimar. He's just too cheap and easy to use. Thus said, I realize he's probably a mid-tier character at best, only having sufficient killing power in the higher % ranges. Which is part of what draws me to him, the fact that there probably won't be that many good Lucario players.

Olimar is a pain in the ass because of his deceptively long melee range and the high priority of his attacks. Also, explosive thrown Pikmin. **** Olimar.

We try to cover the California tournament scene (and other areas), with an emphasis on "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" and "Madden."
