About two feet from me is 10 hours of "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" tournament footage from the past month. And the moment I stop typing this, I'm going to start hacking away.

However, I wanted to take time out to ask for advice.

After about 1,300 videos produced, I think it's time to up the ante.

I would like to enhance the videos. No, I'm not talking about H.G.H. or steroids. Rather, I want to provide statistics, past history, player profiles as people are watching the action.

Eventually, when I receive the equipment necessary to produce P.I.P. and special effects, I'll try something like the video you see below:

When I watch one of the "Super Smash Bros." videos on my portal, it's just "there." I don't learn much about what's at stake, unless the title says "Finals or semifinals." I don't know the history of the players, what their tournament records are, etc.

The reason I tagged this for the WoW and Counter-Strike communities is that I'm hoping you all can give suggestions as well.

I'm looking to put in statistics such as:

* -- In-game ramifications (Winner goes to the finals)

* -- History: (Player A 4-0 in last 4 matches vs. Player B)

* -- Stage stats: (Player A has won 12 straight times on F.D.)

I should say that I don't plan to do this with all of the videos I'm working on. Maybe it'll be just the final four matches of a tournament.

I'm going to try this with some of the videos I'm working on this week.

If you know of a V.O.D. that is ideal in my venture, let me know.

Smash bros may not lend itself to this but I always enjoy commentary.

A while back someone posted some starcraft videos that had full commentary.  I have never played the game but I watched like 6 hours of this tournament.  It was nice not having to know the ins and out of the game.  It was much more accessable than any other videos I had watched.  Also Nurf Sap had a version where there was commentary over the entire footage.  I ate it up.  Brawl might be too fast paced or hard to commentate however this is just something to try.

Glenn, that sounds like a pretty sweet idea.  Adding pass records against his opponent and little things like that just makes the video even better.  Maybe even commentary like the MLG matches where Ken played P.C. Chris but thats harder because they did that in live action.

Of course doing this for all the videos is out of the question, but maybe doing the little records and data on the players for the Losers finals and Winner finals is a cool addition that will spice up the video a bit.

All in all a great idea.  Can't wait to see what you cook up.

We try to cover the California tournament scene (and other areas), with an emphasis on "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" and "Madden."
