Well here I am. Months after my first intro. I am and this will not be something you can count on. But I will from time to time pop on and give you what I know. Better yet, what I believe I know. I recently was apart of a mass email. Now I know many of the others that were given access to this info. Too bad none of them will or have commented on this as of yet. I will be as cautious as I can possibly be. These are "RUMORS", "SPECULATIONS" and "INFO" passed on by a selected few that have the possibilty of inside info.
It is said that tomorrow, Feb 1st at 9am. Not sure what time zone. CGS will announce Halo 3 and CoD4 as apart of thier online comps and qualifiers. This will lead to a possible shot at world finals for what some are saying as a $30,000. prize pot. I think the biggest question is, will Halo 3 and CoD4 become part of the league? Not sure at this point. But never-the-less. This is big for the esports gaming communities.
I think the next big question is how will MLG respond? I have known players and been apart of multiple MLG events in some capacity or another. I also have been apart of many other leagues in some way or another. But given the fact that MLG has a new partner in content for the time being in ESPN. What will be the official reaction? I can't wait to see if these rumors pan out. Will MLG finally go to a more mainstream concept of a "REAL" league? Or will it be business as usual? All the while ignoring the fact that there is a new player in town trying to attract some of the best players in the world at Halo 3 and CoD4. There are many detractors of MLG. I will remain on the fence. At least until I see how this season plays out.
In the mean time. I can't wait to see how the players react to this news. Will we see a mass exodus? Or will we see a league that claims to be like NASCAR or like a "REAL" sports league actually act like it? All I can say at this point is this. If anybody thinks for a second ESPN will keep thier wagon attached to MLG and it's current format of a league is grossly mistaken. It's only a matter of time before either one of two things happen. MLG will see thier league for what it is, instead of just three teams. Or ESPN will see it for what it has been. A self promoting domineering and sometimes borderline un-ethical league that only puts "IT's" players in the fore-front. This all the while fore-saking players and all-around fans across the nation that actually pay money to attend these events.
I truly hope for the sake of the players MLG gets it right and isn't afraid to admit they were wrong in the way they formatted the league. America is very forgiving. We love an a come-back kid. MLG make no mistake. CGS will take over unless you make the necessary steps to make this a more legitmate league. By that I mean, follow traditional methods of how a "REAL" league is formatted. Instead of keeping the gravy train flowing for players from the past. MLG there are more teams than Final Boss, Carbon, Str8 Rippin. Also more games than just Halo 3. How about giving some of those titles and teams a little exposure and access to opportunities? Not likely to happen until the players themselves see the light.
I am not a MLG hater, just someone that wants to see what we call "Esports" progress. I only hope that the rumors are true. There are some players that have seen the light. Wonder if they' take a look at CGS. Wonder if MLG cares?
just a few thoughts,
