*Prize Money
They have kept the prize money the same from last season for Halo, but sadly they lowered the cash for GoW and Vegas to half of what is was last year and cut it to the top 4 places. With ESPN and lots of capital, its puzzling that prize money went down this year. But a different game could take that money they removed.
Halo 3 4v4
1st - $20,000
3rd - $8000
5th - $4000
6th - $2800
7th - $2000
8th - $1600
Vegas 2/GoW
1st- $4000
2nd- $2000
3rd- $1000
4th- $500
*Games
MLG is splitting this year which events have gears and vegas. Medowlands will have Gears and not vegas, while the next 2 will be only vegas, and finally both will be at dallas and the national champs. This surprising moves makes me wonder if they have secret title in their back pocket *cough* smash *cough* for the first 3 events, because otherwise this move seems very strange to only have 2 games. MLG FFA was not mentioned at all, maybe signaling an end to one of the largest events in esports with over 1000 players playing in the FFA at each event in Halo. I hope not, because some of the best young guns made their first splash in FFA and they will no longer have a chance to prove themselves other than 4v4.
*Online
GoW will not have a ladder for qualifying for medowlands, the top 8 in points this time from last year's points will instead be given a free pass into the pro bracket. However, vegas will have a ladder which will open march 31st for San Diego.
*Other stuff
Halo 3 passes will go on sale march 11.
And Round one finished last night with few major upsets. The only top 16 team to not move on was 13 seed Urban Rebels who forfited the match.
Veggie Tails V Inferno is happening tonight, and is the top game in round 2. Most of the interesting games will begin in round 3, so be sure to look for that starting next thursday.
And last, but not least, my soapbox stand on Halo FFA:
MLG please keep this. The FFA event may be a pain in the ass to organize, and maybe no top 8 pro cares anymore, but it still draws many players who would not otherwise play in a MLG event. Gambattles is a great idea for seeding 4v4 but FFA can still be held even if it really means nothing in the tournament overall. I guarantee you 800+ will still play the event just for the glory and fun of it. So before bringing that axe all the way down, please think about this a little more. Hey, maybe you should even talk to the community

I'm still saying no Smash (Melee or Brawl), no matter how awesome it would be for the league to bring it back. Not enough time to have a solid rule set in place, and they cannot change the rules at every circuit event.
On the surface, this sounds like a part of the ESPN360 deal, where they're focusing on broadcasting just one or two games instead of having to do four.
And please keep Halo FFA.

Yea I am not so sure they do it, but still the split of games at the events seems too weird not to have a secret game.

btw, is ESPN a partner or just a media provider? If they're providing only coverage of the league, I don't see how that influences prize money or payout.

Well they received a lot in venture capital in the off season, and the VC's see the ESPN deal basically as vindication of the deal even though they probably wont see any of that cash back, so more cash should mean more prize money
