This is just going to be a short entry about an idea/suggestion that just popped in to my head. No irony, no jokes, no sarcasm.

This should have been suggested before, but as far as I can recall, it hasn't.

Remove the personal rating, and let personal MMR take it's place.

Personal rating was added with the rating-requirement to gear in order to stop people from entering a team just to buy the gear.

It was also a good addition to stop team-jumping in times where team-jumping was bad since scrubs had to play well-geared players creating new teams.

The new MMR-system has effectively killed that possibility (Facing scrubs if you're pro), and thus, personal rating only continue to exist in order to prevent people joining teams to buy their gear.

I don't think Blizzard in general has anything against team-jumpers, and the 180 games you have to play to catch up to a 2k+ team-rating really sucks if you plan to team-jump. Having several partners in your team also sucks these days since his personal rating, which needs to remain within 150 points for him to get points from the team rating, is hard to keep if you have a busy week and the team is rising.

So how to solve this issue to once again allow team-jumping?

Remove the PR and replace it with a personal MMR. Your personal MMR is already there and it is in the system, although hidden.

If you have a personal MMR of 2000, there is no reason not to let you buy the 1850-weaps just because you enjoy playing with a lot of different friends.

So basicly, if you would form a new team, it would consist of: 2 players with an arena-team of  0 rating. In there, 1 players with, ex: 1900 MMR-rating, and one with 1500 MMR-rating.

Now this 1900 MMR-player would still not be able to buy his weapon since the team-rating is too low, but all he would need to do is to raise the team-rating. Once that is up, the other player should have MMR of 1850 aswell.

Lets say this 1900 MMR-player gets enough points to buy his weapon for 1850 rating. Yes, now he can just teamjump to a team with 2k rating and buy it. Does anyone think he shouldn't be able to? He has the MMR, so obviously he has been in a team with his MMR before. No reason he shouldn't be able to get his weapon.

Now, this is also pretty good when wanting to play with another player who already has a 2k rated team.

So lets say this 2k rated team-player has 2k MMR, and you join in with 1900 MMR. As you continue, your MMR-rating would close up to the teams arena rating (or MMR-rating), just as your teams arena-rating catches up to your teams MMR.

The only difference from the current system would be that, basically, you keep your PR over teams, just as you keep your MMR.

There is no reason to complicate it with both MMR, TR and PR.
Just replace your TR with your hidden MMR.

This would also be a good way to keep 2v2 alive. Now you would be able to try a lot of different players out for 3v3 or 5v5 or just play for fun, while still not having to sacrifice TR with your favourite partner. (And you could also just play 2v2 for points and fun like most do, and thus get more fun out of it since variety is fun).

This would also promote new setups (Playing for fun with friends) since you won't have to stick to that fotm-setup just because your PR is in there.

And please don't reply with "Who cares, I have 3k in my 5v5, I can just teamjump 2v2/3v3 anyways!".
1. Noone cares.
2. This is kinda catering to the scrubs. If the lower rated players get viable systems to promote the way they want to play the game, there is more room to improve the gameplay of high rated players.

Ideas?
Comments?
I really can't come up with any flaws, but I havn't really thought it through too much...
Oh, and just to bring some attention to the idea: +1 if you like it.

This would require the MMR to be resetted each season. Would be a good idea anyway.

Does mmr reset if you xfer to a new battlegroup?

And MMR not resetting is completely retarded.

2 Iliekboyz: It doesn't

Does that potentially mean that if you were sitting at 3k mmr or whatever euneek/yog n **** are on?
then xfered to a battlegroup with minor competition and a rank one position of aprox 2700 or something, that you'd be able to boost to a ridiculously high rating at the start of a new season and camp it for rank1 seeing as your mmr in relation to everyone else on the battlegroup is considerably higher, so your points per win would be much greater than other teams?

excuse my poor comprehension of the new system, only just started to play again mid s6.

Since your MMR is so much higher than everyone elses, and your win/loss-rating only depends on yours vs the other teams MMR (with your team rating in there somewhere aswell), you wouldn't gain many points if you're 3k MMR and the rest is 25-2600.

You'd still have to win ****tons of games, considering a 3k or above MMR Team with let's say 2,7k teamrating winning against a 2,7k rated team only nets around 3-6 pts (you might correct me on this) and it gets worse. So with rating inflation, I'm pretty sure going 2,8 k won't be enough to secure the title for the season and while you're leveling up the team, you'll prolly feed some serious MMR into the system even with an 80% winrate.

Ah ok!
I was making the assumption that with a new team at the start of the season, it would attempt to match your team rating of "0/1500" (not sure how it works) to your mmr of 3k+ so each win would give you an extraordinarily large amount of points, while the loser would lose 0.

But i guess once you got closer to the 3k, like 2.7 upwards the points per win would decrease and it would no longer be noticable and it would be like a regular push for rank one.

Thanks man, i just proposed that scenario to try get a better understanding of the way mmr interacts between teams :) need to learrrrn

Also out of interest, have blizz proposed a change to the rating cap of 3k for next season now that people have reached it?

I don't think they did yet. A while back they introduced a change for 3vs3 and 5vs5 bracket do give more players a chance to get the good weapons so there is some kind of value in the math of rating which allows 3s rating to inflate more (maybe they added 300 MMR to every team like Serennia said). I could imagine them lowering this again, since 2s is not relevant anymore for equipment anyway.

Some anime character that you identify with/based your character around.

Well that's what I'd do.

Don't listen to them, man. They just want your avatar for themselves.

True perhaps. Still, considering the amount of ridiculous game-breaking changes each major patch it might not be such a bad idea anyways.

It's pretty stupid that personal rating don't stay through jumping teams, whoever thought that how it works right now was a good idea is completely ******* retarded.

I like the idea of being able to teamjump without having to play 100 games to be able to buy gear..
When was the last time it was like that..?

is it that hard to stay on a team for one a couple weeks. Hell you could run 2 full lineups on the same team.

Sounds like a plan, I miss the days of being able to play on multiple teams.

Agree, to me it seems MMR fixed the problem they tried to fix with PR, except PR turned out to be a less than optimal band-aid fix. PR is pointless to have now, it should be removed.

Only problem I might foresee is that people who's TR isn't eligible for Gladiator and their MMR would be just below the Gladiator cut-off could jump into a team that is in the cut-off as long as they stay within the 150 (or was it 100?) point margin you can be below the team rating with their MMR in order to be eligible for season rewards.

Qualifying for Gladiator requires you to have played atleast 20% of the games in the team ye?

I like it, I hate having to stick to one team just for points, or pr reqs. Also starting new teams is a pain in the ass...i.e. Tugget and Brewkz getting the "lol look at ur win ratio in teh 1800's" when their mmr as we all know was ~2850.

Overall this mmr change would make arena more playable in the social sense as well as get rid of PR, which I have hated ever since its implementation.

Random thought: who in the hell thought it was a good idea to keep mmr aka "spooky ghost rating" hidden? Is it really that hard to put it, say...in the statistics tab of our achieves?

This idea is too logical and makes too much sense for Blizzard to be behind it.
