I wanted to put this in it's own blog for the sake of preservation as I believe the censorship achieved by Blizzard today was quite extreme, assinine and (yes I'm gonna go here) Nazi-esque (or Leninistic perhaps).  The below is a post I made on the rogue forums which was deleted:

You know, as someone who frequents these boards quite a bit and that can still post, I find it amazing what my peers are being banned for at this time. Calling themselves names, making friendly jests (and calling names), when there has been so much bad language and hate spewed on these forums in the past with not even a batted eye.

Sadly, the rogue forums, while always filled with stupid, have become moreso of late. People read something somewhere (maybe even here) and spew the garbage right back while putting some spin on it. The spin keeps on going and eventually even the good intentioned information becomes trash.

* People believe that testing a spec and posting results with no control group is conclusive evidence.

* People believe that because they top damage meters they know all about their class and their spec must be viable and/or superior.

* People believe that their opinion is fact

* People believe that if they make a claim and someone contradicts their opinion, that the person contradicting their claim is bound by burden of proof rather than the other way around.

* People believe that attacking a person's armory is a good way to get out of having to supply proof.

* People's armories are typically pretty bad and will always have an excuse when their armory is poor. Sad fact: Zodar has plenty of info on items that can be obtained through quests that are typically superior to what people have.

* People believe because they have right to post openly, that they actually know what they are talking about when they, most likely, have never read Rod's sticky.

The people that have been banned so far are people that actually don't exemplify the above qualities. People that have 1/2 a clue and are typically far more eloquent that I am.

The sad fact is that this thread will probably get deleted and perhaps I will get banned too. Sadly, the policies that don't allow people to openly discuss are what is worst this situation. Of course Blizzard has every right to censor what they please, but they should take a look at their policies and ask themselves the question:

What are we so afraid of? As they have shown via their CM's tremendous ban button pushing might, we can all be silenced. The problem you create by doing that, or allowing CMs that have yet to post in these forums (I can't remember the last time I saw a blue post) ban people, is that you leave the rest of the masses (in this case far less knowledgeable) to suffer the lack of information or understanding that they deserve and actually pay for via your monthly fee.

In summary, I am saddened by what has transpired here today and believe that by being pig-headed and dropping the ban hammer you are creating more bad than good. While you've missed the real trolls, racists, homophobes, hate-mongers, and other people that are actually a detriment to these forums, you've kicked some of it's most solid contributors.

That friends is what we call Epic Fail

/end post

Blizzard pushed very hard today and achieved Epic Fail status by further deleting this post.

If people are being banned they must've screwed up somewhere.

Yeah, I got banned for forum trolling and speaking negatively of an admin. Yet the same level 10 alt running around has been on the forums for 10 weeks calling people N*****s and trolling armory's, specs, threads etc.

And thats what this blog by lucksoke is referring to.

Absolutely, Blizzard's infinite CM wisdom being questioned is far more detrimental to forum life than the tools noted by Dyzz.

Then there are idiots now reporting everyone because we now need forum user police.  That place is **** ball at this time.

*shrug* blizzard can treat different cases in a different manner as is their right.  We're not talking about a company that is held by conventional standards we're talking about a company that has the aim to suck you dry of your money to pay for a game that barely changes and hasn't had a monthly fee drop even though they have 9 million x 15 a month gross income from this game alone.  Anyway, that being just an example of how the company works, not to say they are immoral in their practices, just remember this is a company that is aiming to make profit.  Therefore it can be said that the forums are a cesspool of bad public relations and really aiming to clean them up in a politically correct and fashionable way is not easy.  I am really surprised they are cracking down now, rather than years ago.

I think the biggest joke on blizzard is their community and how self hating they are.  So **** the wow community.  They show barely any love to the random guy with an idea and its self perpetuating.  So maybe you trolls and **** deserve to get banned to better the community.  And for that, I am glad for blizzard's actions.  Most people think forums are completely a social forum and therefore almost any actions are acceptable but Blizzard is clearly trying to clean the trash from their servers.  But of course, we're still talking about a company aiming to make profit.

But there still are the diamonds in the rough out there within the wow community who have done stuff worthy of redeeming the community, but on a whole, meaning 90% of the trolls who treat the forums as their toilet, **** you guys.

You miss and Blizzard miss the point, if I understand you correctly, if you believe that banning the people that actually are the "diamonds in the rough" because they joke with eachother.

You make some decent points about it being a cesspool and a public relations nightmare, but why to the Euro forums work?  The US forums are a cesspool because of a lack of CM/Mod response to players.

It is tough for the diamonds in the rough to help redeem the community when they are the ones being banned and the trolls remain.
