you've heard of this new game. but probably not, because it was just
invented today. it's called "MIDIculous" and the rules are, the dungeon
master (player 1) plays a NES MIDI (musical instrument digital
interface or music composed for [8-bit] nintendo games and converted
into an i-tunes-friendly format) for the abberant female human
assassain (player 2) to listen to and try to guess the game that the
music is from.
how well did i do? let me put it this way...
4 notes into the bassline were all i needed to identify the soundtrack
that i kicked the **** out of abobo to back in the day when 8 bits were
more than enough (it's really no coincidence that when you roll an 8
onto its side it becomes infinity). it's neither the bassline, nor the
melody that makes the music beautiful, but rather the percussive *leap*
& *CRACK* of landing a jumpkick on williams, the *snap snap snap
snap POW* of the 4 jab/upper cut combo on roper or the bombastic *spat
spat spat... CLUNK* of bashing linda's head with your knee followed by
a shoulder throw for maximum damage. the throwing knives and baseball
bats were a whole separate movement of this particular MIDI masterpiece.
conversely, the double dragon cartoon show was a ******* disgrace to saturday mornings.
Less is more.
