- The original purpose of having different portals was to keep communities together. The idea was WoW players who knew each other could talk among themselves and the people they know. It was not just to keep the talk on WoW.
- I have been a member of this site since the early AmpedNews day. This was before FPS Central and before Amped IGO. I saw a very hard working staff (Ryan, Austin, Josh, and James) put their time in to make the site the best gaming site on the interent. They launched a mods site and a social site and did several redesigns on the Ampednew site. It was a professional looking site and it was ran very well. The problem is it just didnt have a lto of success. Sure we had a lot of hits but the community just read they didnt post. It wasn't until gameriot was launched and the professionalism smashed that there was any success. Frankly this site is like a strip club in the wrong side of town, but that is what makes it unique, Changing it will be bad.
- It is a easy problem to fix. I know not everyone here wants to read political stuff on a gaming site but some find it fun. Why not have the category a blog is in in parenthesis to the left of the title. Have a filter to where people can turn off certain categories. I know with the talent that Gameriot has they could code this easily. Do it. Try turning this place into a high class strip club would be a dissapointment to a lot of people. It needs to stay the way it us.

That is fine. Why not give people a choice. The blog list should look like this
(WoW) Paladin kills Epic Night Elf.
(WoW) How to get to level 70 in a week.
(Football) My fantasy team rapes Vir's
(WoW) Blizzard admits to smoking spot during server maintenance
(Politics) Barak Obama catches AIDs while in Detriot.
(WoW) New LOTLK videos!

Having the word "sucks" in your title is a good idea. I am now serious.
Not all change is so:

It was my understanding that the portals are there to give guidance to the content posted in them. Am I wrong in thinking that? Posts about the best 5 lesbian kisses is hardly WoW related, is it?
Chan4 and somethingawful exist for that reason.
The changes are positive, and anybody craving content of a different type can go elsewhere, surely?
If the fickle wish to leave, then they had nothing to say anyway.
Mass context does not mean valid content.

There have been a few too many troll posts lately but blanket banning what could be good discussion is pretty retarded. With your theory of how things should be I guess I could read WoWInsider and deal with that total WoW immersion and not get to know people outside of WoW related topics. Also I would subject myself to horrible bloggers. I like coming here and just hanging out despite this site not being totally about WoW. This really sounds like late Nirvana and choosing your audience bull**** but I guess that is how it will be.

The purpose of the portal in the original launch post which I can not find was to keep communities together.

True and this site is basically a WoW community even with the off topic posts.

The Nirvana analogy is terrible.
Less than 20 posts since May, and that's all you can come up with?
Anyway, I think you're both overreacting, and also quite bland, so maybe you could just PM each other your fears, and pocket business plans, and save the space out here for others?
Thanks

All of these political blogs have been is cries out for attention, and trollish attempts at getting more hits. Perhaps if it is restricted to gaming blogs only, we will actually get some REAL content! *gasp* And not just some retarded blog with a alluring title (see: Sarah Palin naked...OH BOY I AM GONNA MISS THAT!)

I don't see any problem with the "ban" of political and off-topic posts in GameRiot.
Why would you come to GR to get your daily dose of political news when their are hundreds of other sites dedicated to it.
I know before they decided to ban these posts, some could argue it was nice having both your gaming and real world needs all in the same place. But you can't blame GAMEriot for not wanting things that don't concern gaming in general.
