Who wants a Pokemon MMORPG?

The pokemon world everyone should be aware of if they are currently between the ages of 14-30.
If you didn't play the gameboy game, you should have played the cards, and if you didn't play the cards, you should have owned a few at least, and if you didn't do any of the above, you should have watched the TV show. Pokemon was simply the greatest **** out when I was growing up. I can't begin to explain how awesome I felt when I got a shiny Charizard card. When it was stolen by some prick in primary school (I'm going to **** you up, when I find you) I felt as though a part of my soul had died.
When Ash was locked in an epic battle with some crazy dragon pokemon masteer, I nearly shat my pants trying to contain my excitement. I don't think I ever had more digital fun than the time when I smashed my friends 6 level 100 pokemon with my superior 6 pokemon (ok, I used 2 dragonites).

Now when you compare WoW, the best selling MMO to other games, I think the lore is pretty bad to be honest. It's just a mix of any semi-fantasy genre, but it together makes a pretty good game. Now, carrying around a series of pocket monsters is goddamn awesome. Instead of creating one character in most MMORPG's, you can make your human character, and then customize on hundreds of creatures. There are rare ones, common ones, and super tough ones, and so forth. Gaining access to places where you can catch the rare and desirable pokemon could require a test of your skills, intuition, experience or knowledge.

The elitism factor that PVP'ers strive for, the titles, the number 1 rank, etc is present in pokemon. Remember the song of the TV show? "I want to be the very best, like no one ever was". Now, where Pokemon could improve on with other games, is that you could play it individually against others. There's no real dueling aspect to WoW, because duels between classes are largely unfair as it's a team based game. If you come up against Serennia, Neilyo, any e-celebrity and he has a Dragonite, Mewtwo, Venusaur, Steelix, and a Mudkip just to be cute, and has some crazy Pokemon Master title, you're gonna get intimidated. If he duels you, and outplays your equally leveled pokemon, you're gonna get all warm and fuzzy inside and get that burning desire to get as good as him. There won't be any "carried" factor, "combo" factor (you all have access to the same pokemon). The way types counter eachother I will cover in a moment.

Now in pokemon, you actually are forced to explore the terrain for purposes other than grinding. In fact, running around the terrain is just as fun as fighting the elite four. You encounter others, and duel accordingly for money, experience and so forth. You search the terrain for pokemon and save the world from devastation (eat **** team rocket) and instead of having mages countering warriors, you have 6 classes and the way you manage each pokemon is how you win. " oh but we all know how that turns out, your type ends up countering eachother again and again until it comes down to who had the luck at the start".
I thought of that, but what they could do is make the whole "super effective" and "not very effective" systems used in the gameboy/card games so insignificant it doesn't make enough of a difference for it to be noticeable. The combat system would be wow-esque in that you get a series of moves you can do, as well as your basic auto attacking (tackle/scratch?) and moving around the place. the HUGE amount of variety in pokemon would be so fun, but I guess difficult to balance.

Maybe grass types have natural healing abilities, fire do direct mage-like damage, rock/ground do alot of stuns, normal have medical traits and knockbacks, and each pokemon is unique and have a series of common moves and a few of their own.


The PVE would need to be implemented well, so that each encounter is at least mildly challenging so that you don't get a free ticket to awesome.
Grouping with others could work quite well if you all choose good combinations of parties, and if dueling is fun and competitive, grouping would make it even more crazy.

At the end of the day, everyone knows they want some more pokemons.
