This is the most blatant example of designing the game around straight counters (rock-paper-scissors) that I have seen yet. This ability has close to no practical use against any class except druids (and shaman, to a far lesser extent). While I don't play a hunter and won't pretend to understand their issues - it has always felt like a skilled hunter was a powerful opponent. Even before the last set of hunter buffs (which I remember reading were not addressing real hunter issues - a common retort that is rarely really explained) hunters were fine in my eyes.
This change just seems so poorly thought through. It's just a big bandaid for whatever issues hunters may have (though hunters seem perfectly fine against druids) and several very long nails in the coffin for feral druids. Now feral druids will not only be useless in caster form, but they will be rendered largely harmless against even more forms of teams by this change.
I do know and think that restoration druids should not be as powerful as they are in small brackets - but this isn't the way to do this. Across the board druid nerfs really hurt the two specs that aren't as popular and play incredibly differently - balance and feral.
In addition, I dislike how this just puts more emphasis on the mana burn metagame as druids against a hunter will either have to eat viper sting or spend some of their time feared. Of course good druids can pillar kite to negate this somewhat - but when an ability is instant cast at 30yds, it only takes a very small mistake to face a very harsh punishment.
In completely unrelated news, I have completed a new PvP video and am currently working on the commentary for it. It will feature 2.3 and 2.4 arena content from the perspective of a pure balance druid (no dreamstate/ns "balance druid" bull****). I expect to have it done and officially released within about a week and will make another post about it then here and on various forums.

Your first double feral video was the best pvp video i've ever seen. Will this one include commentary?

" it has always felt like a skilled hunter was a powerful opponent."
The only people who say that are people who never played a hunter.

I play hunter and also think that this wont adress hunter issues in arena, it will mostly reinforce countercomp.. but it will hit ferals/boomkins in a wrong way.
At first glance this seems like a bad move from the balance devs.

Can't wait till the video hits, better have good music. The hunter change is stupid even for resto druids. I can understand the 30 yard range, but instant cast? Give me a break. They should make it no cooldown 1.5 cast with 30 yd range.

The music will certainly be different from that of most videos. I have no idea how well my tastes translate to others though!

every hunter setup has a druid so this wont hurt druids at all

go to cyclone, watch hunters being played properly and then try to say that they have a lot of problems with a straight face. The change is nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction to 1800 hunters saying they are too weak. Hunters do not have a weak bracket, they are as dependent on druids in 2v2 as warriors and arguably stronger overall. The problem with hunters is attributable to the playerbase itself and the "legolas effect".

You're 2v2 feral video was by far the best one I've ever seen, I cannot wait until you release your second.

I am not a big PvP-er, but I say wait and see how big an impact this has. Cause blizzard themselves even said hunters are the hardest class to play well in arena, so this is just a little bit of help in countering a highly mobile healng class for certain metas. At least that's how it seems to me, they might revert it before though as they have done in the past.

Just like they once said Paladins were designed for children and players who are gaming for the first time :P

And that druid shapeshift forms were to bring "character, fun, and color to the game world"
