Although many people are unaware of this, the Surgeon General of the United States (the same one that warns you about the risks of smoking cigarettes) actually concluded in 1979 that pipe smokers lived on average of 3 years longer than non pipe smokers.
Unlike cigarettes or cigars, the smoking pipe is the best option to give a smoker a lasting sense of relaxation and pleasure. Since the shot of tobacco is stronger, it is also considered less addictive. Whereas with cigarettes many smokers will frequently get cravings throughout the day, pipe smokers are able to comfortably smoke infrequently.

This information was actually really surprising to me when I first heard it. When my friends came back from A&M for the summer, I found out that many of them picked up pipe smoking, and the supporting reasons why. I always figured that if/when I became old I would pick up pipe smoking to look cool (since I would be close to death anyways), but now I might actually try acquiring a pipe sooner. Besides, all the greats did it. Albert Einstein, Mark Twain, Gandalf.
Whatever the case, laying back and smoking a pipe looks *way* classier than huddling over and sucking a cigarette.

Cigars smell great, taste great, and look great. Besides mouth problems.. it effects the lungs very minimally!

Oh I'm with you there. My friends don't inhale with Cigars and use them primarily for flavor, they seem also more acceptable than cigarettes.

And then in 1983, the Surgeon General of the United States released a report indicating that pipe smokers have a 2 to 4.3 times greater risk of developing lung cancer than non-smokers.

I remember the days when the Earth was flat and republicans were against spending. What a crazy world we live in.

That did not differentiate between inhalers and non-inhalers. Obviously inhaling-smoking is more dangerous.

you also forgot Freud, who contracted cancer in his mouth and suffered terribly from it, to the point where his dog couldn't stand the stench of the badly healing wounds in his mouth and fled him.
The problem with pipesmoking is that you trade inhaling for sucking up the quite aggressive juices of the more moist tobacco into your mouth.
I love the smell, though
(of pipes, that is)

Smoking - You pay money for bad taste, bad smell and ugly teeth.
Water pipe(dunno the correct word) is cool though it doesn't taste like burned dirt
