Prize money breakdown by game
1) $202,500 - World of Warcraft ($30,000 EM III LA, $22,500 MLG Dallas, $120,000 BlizzCon, $30,000 EM III Montreal)
2) $176,000 - Counter-Strike 1.6 ($50,000 EM III LA, $26,000 WCG USA, $50,000 EM III Montreal, $50,000 EM III Dubai)
3) $60,200 - Warcraft 3 ($5,200 WCG USA, $40,000 BlizzCon, $15,000 ESWC Athens)
4) $45,200 - StarCraft ($5,200 WCG USA, $40,000 Blizzcon)
5) $15,000 - Quake 3 (ESWC Athens)
WoW comes out on top.
Not bad for such a low-skilled game eh? Well anyway, I also wanted to figure out how much each individual could make if they placed 1st in every event of their respected game. I know it's impossible for each team to attend every event(such as EM LA and MLG Dallas), but I just wanted to see.
You also have to remember that Counter-strike is 5v5, WoW is 3v3 and War3/SC/Q3 are 1v1. Also, the numbers above are the TOTAL prize pool for each event. I had to find out the 1st place prizes myself. I could not find the 1st place blizzcon prizes for war3 and sc but I assume they are 25,000.Â
If you could achieve 1st place in each event you would earn:
1. World of Warcraft -40,000
2. WC3-35,500
3. SC-28,000
4. CS 1.6-23,000
5. Q3-7,500.
There's no doubt that blizzcon is giving a HUGE boost to these winnings, but hey...this is just what the numbers happen to be for October. These numbers don't include salaries of players as well.

I think I am so astonished at those figures because of the word "October". Damn.

It makes me wonder, if Americans could give up icecream for a year to eliminate 3rd world hunger (or is it debt?), what would the 3rd world have to do to save your economy?

I was thinking more sell each and every child as a slave to raise the money but what you said was pretty realistic tbh

You have to register though. It's the same stream they're going to broadcast WoW tomorrow.

Seemed like just the other day I was 18 yrs old kicking the **** outta scrubs at LANs for money in CS. Now I am 25 all muscled out raping fools on my Female Shadow Warrior with her flowing blonde hair. I think she's German too, so good.

You're totally right, but what amazes me is that cs doesn't have blizzcon and is still up there. Â There's a TON of events for both CS and WC3. Â I think spirit moon won close to like $200,000 last year just by himself.

Especially Intel is pumping a truckload of money into gaming.. don't know about USA, but CS is still big in Europe. Pretty much the football version of e-sports.

You should look up the salaries of all korean starcraft pros and throw that money up in the list.

WoW is only on top because of Blizzard's backing, it'll drop soon I guess. It's bs to watch, I prefer wc3, cs1.6 and sc any day of the week.

Or maybe the success could have something to do with those 10+ million players blizzard likes to brag about.

Sims 2 is top selling aswell, doesn't mean it's respected as an e-sports.
