The 2.4 patch brought some additional changes that I didn't see reflected in the patch notes.  First, Hortus posted that people Q'ing up for BG's in full premades would have to wait longer than PUGs so that they'd face other premades rather than PUGs.  Several forum posters have stated that this has frequently driven their Q times over 30 mins (or longer).  While I won't enjoy that on the infrequent occasions that I still run premades with friends, it's so much nicer for the poorly geared/organized PUGGers.  Maybe I won't have to 2 box and Q hop to dodge premades when I solo Q as well, which would be great.

The other interesting change is that it appears that the arena ID/location is no longer transmitted when the arena Q pops.  This means, among other things, druids can't dodge Nagrand/Lordaeron and  only take Blade's Edge. It may (but likely won't) also make it harder to win trade because there's no ironclad guarantee that Q's popping for both trading teams at the same time really are going into the same instance.  Very interesting. I haven't verified that you can still safely drop Q after the arena Q pops but before you enter, but presumably that mechanic remains unchanged.

And please allow me one brief QQ.  The win ratio for Horde in AV on Nightfail was abysmal in 2.3, probably less than 15%.  It has since dropped to (maybe) 5%, probably less.  It's not even close.  The frustrating part is I  know Horde dominate AV on other battlegroups, I sadly am stuck on one in which Horde is just awful at PVP.  And the worst is the inherent advantages Alliance enjoys probably don't even matter given how horrendous Horde are at PVP on Nightfail.  Horde get flattened (in PUGs) in the other three BG's as well, so mirroring AV prolly wouldn't even help even out the outcomes.  As a Nightfail Horde player I'm always amazed to hear Alliance elsewhere complaining that they always lose. I can't even imagine. Ah well, at least the DR on HK's is gone.  QQ, alas, QQ.

i never got the idea of Blizzard catering to the fast honor stacking the deck crowd avoiding competitive competition, which IMO is what Blizzard had catered to up until 2.4, and have been very reluctant to do what they just did. even if it meant long que times for preforms. To me a competetive venue > old forced content to gear up, and i think that is some of the Dev's mindset who are just as jaded by BG's as the top Arena players are where they feel the grind in pugs is too long.  So they justified/defended stackiing the deck fast honor abuse to shortcut.

otherwise i feel it would've been done a long time ago ;p

Kalgan defiinitely comes across as the type that would justify it due to a jaded mentality of BG's, and i'd think that applies to more than a few Dev's of whom are very much like the Arena based players that post here. Every comment i've read from the Dev's seem to imply thne current BG's are outdated and arent a focus at all anymore, and only reluctantly update/fix/change them due to player interest.

IMO winning in AV comes down to defense. if you all go total O, its a crapshoot, but if you play D, guard towers, etc. your chances of winning are much greater, altho its tough to get players to do that when many have the 'lose a fast game for low honor' being preferable over 'a drawn out game for lots of honor' w/ many reward driven players. How many you have of these types in your BG are generally how often you will lose in my experience.

I'm really enjoying Magister's Terrace, but given the resources Blizzard has available they are woefully inadequate in terms of creating new content in a timely manner.  And now another patch with the best lore, content and gear going to the top 2%... again.  I loved that they moved a version of Kael from TK into MrT so people could experience the fight, but I wish they'd taken a scaling approach to all their dungeons so the masses could enjoy the content they put so much work into. I'd love to see Naxx, BT, etc... but never will (nor will most people).  To me that's wasted effort.

As for AV, Nightfail Horde do nothing but rush Van and get outplayed 5v40 at the Bridge O' Death (TM).  A stellar game -- one where bards compose entire ballads in memoriam -- is one where Horde break the magical 200 bonus honor barrier. Most games the Horde get 62-100 bonus honor.  I've noticed these days that fully 1/4 - 1/3 of Horde have given up and gone AFK.  No one even reports them anymore because the Horde have no gy's and we're all rezzing in the cave anyways.  Oy vey does the honor grind irritate me. Again, pardon the QQ. :)

There has been no change to premade vs premade in 2.4, the thread you cited was from 07'.

Off topic to an extent, did you ever decide about trying your luck on the Tournament Realm, Roma Victor? It seems to me that although it's not talked about in that context, a big part of  easing the PvP grind is making premade characters available to arena in, so people who are really interested in Arena can just get on the TR and avoid the whole reroll/grind altogether.

Unfortunately for people such as myself this doesn't help. I like two parts of WoW - the instanced PvP (open world is generally too large-scale for my taste, although smaller encounters are great), and casual PvE grouping with IRL friends. I have no standing at all in the PvP community, so even if I payed the fee to get onto the Tournament Realm I imagine I'd have a hell of a time finding a team. Plus it's only a few weeks out of the year...

Anyway, if something like the TTR were made permanent it'd reduce a lot of the need to grind BGs for honor to begin with. Hopefully it'd be easier for Blizz to monitor the one or two TRs for win trading and similar activity, as well.

Ah, my utopian dreams... Maybe Blizzard will make the game free and release a BG editing tool while they're at it so the community can make custom maps. >.<

I haven't signed up there yet, like you I have the same issue of finding teammates willing to pay $20.  I'm still tempted to do it because I'm genuinely curious where I stack up skillwise when the other factors are equalized.  And yeah, that feature is basically Guild Wars PVP where you could level a toon via PVE or create one immediately at level cap to do tournament PVP with.  It's a great system that I'd love to see permanent in WoW sans the $20 registration fee.

Still, $20 is considerably cheaper than what the gold/point/rating sellers charge, so maybe it's a bargain.
