First of all I'd like to clear the air about the whole China issue.

Please please please keep in mind that we are here for the Olympics. Even if you hate the venue, please try to show some respect for the athletes and the people who worked hard to get to this event.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED:

- Beijing, specifically, has gotten a massive overhaul. Olympic venues have been built and roads along with them.
- An attempt (READ: ATTEMPT) at cleaning a mistake that has been left alone for far too long.
- Due to global attention, China has recognized certain humanitarian issues.
- There has been a great effort on the people's side to learn and try to welcome everyone to Beijing. You can't fault them for that.

WHAT HASN'T HAPPENED:

- Media uncensoring. There is still censorship in Chinese media, to some extent.
- Pollution. Yeah everyone talks about it. But think about it this way. All those products you buy? Yeah you know, the ones with the MADE IN CHINA/BEIJING/TAIWAN labels? They are main contributors of the pollution problem. You pay a lower price for these products because they are made by people who are paid a fraction of North America's standard minimum wage, work in ****ty conditions and in factories that aren't optimal for pollution control.
- Humanitarian issues. I've discussed this in someone's blog but, I can't think of any examples of humanitarian issues, but people always love to bring this topic up.

This is only a list that I've made based on what I can remember off the top of my head. Please feel free to add/correct me anywhere I'm off.

THE OPENING CEREMONY:

I'm watching it on the CCTV-Olympics channel as I type, so far it does not disappoint. The effort some of these performers have put into their work clearly shows. I'm really more interested in the fireworks portion though...

Holy **** the synchronized martial arts bit was AWESOME.

The drummer part was fun because you could see who was messing up. There was this little dot in the middle of nowhere for like 5 seconds and I laughed.

Good point, but here is my rebuttal. US Population = 300mil China Population = 1.32bil Even with nearly 80 million homeless (sounds kind of ridiculous though), China manages to house 1.24billion people. It's a difficult situation however you slice it.

lol are you serious? You're saying that 80million is a small amount in china so its ok that they are starving and homeless. They're still 80 million living breathing starving dieing people. I agree that it is ridiculous.

who the **** said that? Stop making your own assumptions. I'm just saying you should factor in how many ******* people there actually are in China. You can't point your finger at the 80 million when you forget the 1.24 billion people.

ps: China has a 6% homelessness rate according to you. And according to google(always right lolol??) USA has an equal, if not higher, rate of homelessness.

I don't understand your point, im saying that instead of wasting billions of dollars on the olympics, china should help people who need help first. 80 million is a ******* lot of people no matter how you look at it. I don't see how helping 6% of the population would hurt the remaining 94%. Actually studies show that lower poverty rates have a direct correlation with stronger economies due to more people working and circulating wealth instead of littering streets and soaking up welfare.

Drums were pretty sick I have to agree. i think the olympics is a ******* waste of time Why would you say something like that? The Olympics are an excellent inclusion in the modern world, I don't understand how you could put that sort of spirit down. -1

i dunno if ur replying to me, but the olympics is a crock of ****. i cant understand the idea that we should celebrate bull**** ideals like equality with the state the world is in. how can you ignore all the **** going on and still 'hold hands and celebrate what makes us alike.' the olympics are nothing more than yet another platform for souless corporations to advertise products we dont need.

Dude, you called it. We have to celebrate these 'bull**** equality ideals' no matter what the state is in because of what they are -- ideals. The world being **** as it is gives us all the more reason to not give up hope. It'd be really ******* easy to just sit down and let the world go to ****, and I suppose fat emos like you are more than familiar with the concept of 'giving up'.

lol? i never said to give up on our problems. I said we shouldnt ignore them and pretend like they aren't there which is exactly what the we're doing. Instead of time fixing them we're celebrating meaningless ideals. Grats on being brainwashed and stupid.
