1vs1 PvP video included in the PvP section.

My info about this game is extremely limited as I cannot find any English wikis or fan-sites dedicated to this game. Most of my information is from playing the game myself(That's even limited by not knowing Korean so I don't know exact effects for some abilities.) and also grabbing some things from random forums/developer quotes.

C9:
-There is no Healer, Tank, or DPS specific classes in C9, every class is capable of soloing.
-There is only 3 classes in the C9 Open Beta but there will be more when released(At least 2 based on videos I watched with classes not in the Beta).
-The level cap in C9 is 50 and there will be PvE/PvP end-game content for when you are at the level cap.
-There is a PvP Arena at the moment for when you challenge someone to a duel, you get ported there for a 3 out of 5(first to 3 wins, wins) fight. Hangame(Developers) say they will be adding a lot more PvP content into the game for the release, the Dueling Arena was just recently added so they could stress test PvP, so expect rankings/group PvP in Arena type gameplay based on this.

Gameplay:

C9 plays just like a third-person action game with RPG elements mixed in. The game runs extremely smooth with tight responsive controls and is very fast paced while not being a mindless hack n slash. There is no targeting, just aiming your character/reticle in a direction and you will be hitting any enemies infront of your character(For projectiles, you will need to be more accurate with aiming your reticle in the middle of your screen). When being hit or hitting someone, it stuns them for about 0.25 seconds(I don't know exact amount, it's very short), so if you don't properly handle a crowd of enemies or fighting against someone in PvP, you can easily become overwhelmed. Most abilities, including ones you don't have on your action bar, have cooldowns and appears as an icon above your action bar to show its cooldown after using. Because getting hit stuns you for a very short duration, if you use an ability at same time or shortly before getting hit, the ability will still go on cooldown and is wasted, so you need to properly time abilities.

My Ranger at level 12(out of 50levels):
- Holding Left Click(or tapping it for each attack) puts me into a attack string of 4 attacks. You will not want to Hold it down for when doing air combos because you need to properly time your attacks to juggle.
- Pressing Right Click shoots an arrow. Aim the arrow with your reticle.
- There is an Arrow Attack where I could either hold down Right Click to use, which charges up my Bow 3 times for a strong attack. If not, the other way to use it(both ways putting it on cooldown) is to press Right Click after my third Left Click attack(L, L, L, R) which instantly fires the arrow without needing to charge it and it also shoots my character backwards.
- You can roll forward, left/right, and backwards by either pressing shift+ W, A, S, or D or by double tapping the direction. Movement is extremely important in this game.
- Using a roll at the same time of being attacked(stunned) will make you go into an enhanced roll which rolls for a longer distance and damages enemies in that direction, about 10second cooldown. Crucial ability if you **** up and are getting gang-raped by a bunch of enemies to roll out of the crowd since you can't do a normal roll while stunned.
- While holding A or D key(Doesn't work if I'm holding W and A/D) and pressing Left Click, my character dashes in that direction while swinging my weapon(much more effective than regular roll) and has a cooldown of around 5-10seconds.
- Left Click while on the ground does an AoE knockback attack while getting up, about 10secon cooldown.
- Q puts me into stealth mode for a very short duration, cooldown of about 20seconds.
- F kicks forward, quick attack, good for getting quick stun on enemy to start your attack combos, cooldown of about 5-10seconds. At level 15 you can upgrade this so it kicks enemies up into the air and then kick them back down.
- E Picks up an enemy infront of you, making you invulnerable to damage/stuns during the animation(you aren't locked into animation, you can aim still), and slams down the enemy, in any direction you aim yourself towards during the grab(to damage nearby enemies), and you can perform air combo juggles off of the bounce on that target.

Onto my hotbar abilities, all which have about 5-10second cooldowns(cooldowns aren't random in this game, I just don't know exact amounts.):
1. Electric stab attack(no clue if it has an additional effect besides doing damage) which leads into a second elbow attack if it lands(It isn't automatic, must press left click after successful hit). My highest damaging attack.
2. AoE swipe attack which has a knockback effect.(Very important to control a crowd of enemies.)
3. Roundhouse Kick which lifts enemies infront of it into the air so you can do air combos.
4. Flying Lightning Kick which has a decently long lunging distance.
5. Triple Arrow attack which shoots 3 spaced arrows infront.

Customization:

Customization

There is no Talent Trees like in WoW, instead, you gain Skill Points from leveling. To gain new abilities/upgrading them/class bonuses(Ranger learns DOUBLE Jump at a later level) you need to go the Skill Trainer. Not only do skills have a level requirement, they have a skill point purchase price. You will not have enough skill points to buy/upgrade everything, so you need to choose wisely. At level 11, there is about 8+ things(that I am high enough level to buy) that I don't have enough skill points to get.

The other way for customization is through gear/weapons. Loot drops through-out the dungeons you run through, with the last boss dropping the best loot. The higher the difficulty you have the dungeon on(Easy, Normal, Hard, Master) the better the loot is that drops.

Those are the main two ways that I know of, there may be more, but I don't know because of the game being in Korean. I know there is Crafting in C9, just not sure how much it affects your character.

Leveling:

Leveling

Leveling in C9 is really straight-forward. While in town, you open up your map and look for explanation marks(new quests) or question marks(quest turn ins). I have no idea what the quests are telling me to do because they are in Korean but some are straight-forward enough that I end up completing a lot of them by just running a dungeon. I'm sure I would be leveling much faster though if I could actually complete every quest I have on me.

As far as I know, questing is completely instanced. When leaving town, you run through the portal and pick where you want to teleport to, to level up at. As you can see in the screenshot, each zone is broken up into level brackets which you unlock by being a high enough level so you cannot go into the 4-7zone until you are level 4, for example.

Each questing zone has 4 different layers/parts to it: Easy, Normal, Hard, or Master. Changing difficulty doesn't just make it harder and give better loot, it makes your run-through different than the last difficulty by porting you to a different part of the zone. You must beat the previous difficulty to unlock the new one(Must get a score of "Good" on Hard to unlock Master mode, which can be pretty challenging, don't expect MOST people to be accomplishing this regularly.). Your gear will definitely be much better than others if you are regularly able to unlock and beat Master Mode(Finally, a MMO with Challenging solo content). You can also group up to 5 people in a group for each leveling area.

While running a dungeon, your health does not regenerate while your mana slightly does; the only ways to gain health/mana back in a large amount is through using a health/mana potion(both have large cooldowns) or through using a health/mana fountain within the dungeon(Basically a "checkpoint"). Each dungeon has a final boss at the end to defeat: Everything ranging from dodging projectiles/attacks and summoning adds. After defeating the boss, a scoreboard pops up of how well you did compared to other people on the server. Expect people to be bragging about their high scores in Hard/Master modes.

PvP:

Here is a PvP video of Shaman vs. Warrior(Alpha footage):

While being limited to just a 1vs1 Arena, at the moment, the duels I have experienced have been extremely fun and make me look forward to the actual PvP content they are going to add to the end-game. Same thing applies in PvP with PvE, when you are hit, you get stunned for about 0.25 seconds.

My Duels mostly consisted of(This is PvP at level 10-12, in a game with 50 levels):
1. Starting off in stealth to close the distance, it's a VERY short duration. If not that, harassing from range with arrows.
2. Using Flying Lightning Kick to catch my enemy into a 4string Left Click attack, using Kick if I need to, into an Electric Stab attack(strongest ability).
3. Usually roll out immediately after to bait them into attacking nothing to then get back in Melee distance and use my grab attack(E) then using my Roundhouse kick off the bounce from the grab to get them even higher into the air.
4. Use my 3string attack combo into my arrow attack(L, L, L, R) while they are in the air(you can't just use your attacks as fast as possible, you need to delay each attack slightly to keep them juggled) which ends up with them on the ground and myself being launched backwards from the arrow attack.
5. Shoot an arrow at them while they are on the ground. Only a few abilities/attacks allow you to hit your enemy while they are on the ground, you cannot use your 4string attack on them while they are on the floor, for example.

That's about it, use Flying Lightning Kick or Jump(jump? read next paragraph) to close distance, Kick when having trouble starting attacks on enemy or countering attacks, use my enhanced dodge roll to get out of an attack combo, shoot arrows/use triple arrow attack/charge up arrow attack(mainly use this when they are getting up) when at range, make sure to roll away from target when they are on ground since everyone has an AoE attack(on about 10second cooldown) when getting up from a knockdown, and actively dodge their spells/attacks.

Also a good thing to note is that Jumping actually is a part of your playstyle, not something you just spam for the hell of it. Jumping forward is a pretty decent lunge, which you can do jump+Left Click for a lunge attack, and to balance this, when you jump you have about 0.25seconds of not being able to move after the jump when landing, you are vulnerable in the air, and you need to aim it correctly to be effective with it.

-----------------
I will probably end up buying the Koren Retail version of this game based on how my experience has been so far with the game. Hopefully, in the near future, someone creates an English crack(like they did with Aion) so I can further learn more about the game.

Good read as always but i can't help myself - the boss battle vid looks like a console title without much finesse.

Chars with 4, 5 special attacks and only three classes at all at release is rather small start, not an MASSIVELY multiplayer game. There might be much more skills & different chars to come, i won't judge it for now.

There is only 3 playable classes in the Open Beta, at the moment, but there will be AT LEAST 5 playable classes when released, maybe more, no official information if there is more than 5. The number 5 is based on their promo videos showing different classes than the 3 playable ones in the Beta.

WTF does the term "massively" multiplayer have to do with how many classes or abilities you have?

NA release is planned, no official release date. The game is very close to Korean release date, so based on that, I would say that the NA release will be around 2010 or early 2011.

I don't mind Hangame, they are one of better big game companies in Korea.  Most of them are big ******** and terrible developers.  Koreans lack the fundamental understanding of game design in general.  They just copy off of each others' terrible games thus creating even more terrible games.

My favourite company is IO Entertainment which was responsible of making Survival Project.  And now Lost Saga.  They don't make MMOs, but still they're good company that was started by like two guys in a small office.

Oh and props to going that extra mile to discover new games.  I would hate to play a game that has different language.  ****, I'm Korean and I wouldn't bother playing those Korean MMO betas even if I get an invite.

Excellent post. Someone with real experience in the MMO world posting.

Btw, what does Arirang mean exactly? I have heard quite a few different definitions. Seeing as how in the dying days of Shadowbane we fought the Koreans, their in-game nation was named Arirang. I believe after awhile they had their guild name forcibly changed...

Sounds quite AOCish with the whole "hitting people in front of you". In a good way though!
