There's no doubt about the fact that MLG was quite a large success, and to me, it personally feels a lot like the WSVG glory days.  Putting faces to big names like Serennia and Inactive was candy for the entirety of the Gameriot trolls, and the entertainment value of all of the matches was definitely increased because of this  and the 20+ articles dedicated to player pictures alone is more than evidence of this.

Having spent Saturday and Sunday completely occupied with a wedding, I was only around for a handful of the matches - but I did catch Inactive blow up about the nerd sponsors and boy it was well worth sitting around for. Putting a face to the name Serennia was quite entertaining as well. Overall though, I feel the tournament was broadcasted well, commentated well and was quite a reverse step from the direction WoW was heading as a E-sports competitor.

Today I had the opportunity to speak with two members of GotGames East AKA "BG9 Killers", Lycra and Cyberpsycho, and they shared their huge experience with MLG this weekend where they accomplished a huge feat of absolutely destroying almost all of the competition that BG9 had to offer. Neither of the team members could get ahold of a huge MVP in the tournament, Sodah, but hopefully I will catch up with him by Wednesday so stay tuned for that. Thanks to gotgame.com for the great team photo.

Gotgame

Jasi: Before we start, how did all three of you come together as a team?

Lycera: Cyberpsycho and I are RL friends, and as for how we got Sodah, cyberpsycho and I knew he lived in California for MLG so we talked to him on his server detheroc and he was a very nice person and not elitist at all.  He said he would come and do it with us and we practiced on the TR about 3 weeks before the MLG.

CP: We have played with a ton of druids on TR and live and sodah is by far the best one we have played with.

Jasi: So you're telling me that as a team, you only had 3 weeks total of experience pre-MLG to practice together? That definitely says something...

Lycra: Yes, we did very good the first two days of the TR. We held first and took a 2 day break and ended up in second. We farmed SK gaming 12-2 on the TR.

Jasi: Ouch. Do you think that a lack of playtime with each other in comparison to most of the other teams was detrimental to your overall success at MLG?

CP: We wanted to try out other comps but we stuck with our mains cause we didn't really have time to learn new setups. I play a lock, and have 2300 level experience on him, but didn't feel comfortable playing him this tournament.

Lycra: As you can see at MLG, SK-Gaming ran Warrior/resto shaman/druid because they felt their set up was terrible against ours and they had no chance.

Jasi: So you feel that their makeup was relative to their experience playing against you on the TR?

Lycra: I really believe so. I think if we had more time to play together probably 2-3 months we would be very good to compete to a top position.

CP: They couldn't beat us on the TR so they tried to go for a hard counter and it really failed.

Jasi: What team(s) do you think was your biggest challenge? Any surprise performances by any of your competitors?

Lycra:  I really thought we would have trouble against Team Pandemic because of their experience at lans, but Frag Dominant by far.

CP: I would say that FD did a really good job of playing multiple comps. Most teams tried to counter comp us and failed because they couldn't play the other classes well, but FD was playing very well with every setup they played.

Jasi: It seems like they actually had a pretty big advantage knowing ahead of time that you would be stuck with Rogue/Rogue/Druid against them and thus geared accordingly. Do you think it was your lack of versatility that hurt you in the end and costed you the matches against Frag Dominant, or perhaps strategy problems?

Lycra: We never really got to practice against Rogue/Warrior/Druid on the TR at all. None were queuing and our strategy was last minute.

Jasi: So it seems that the lack of play time caught up to you at this point then. You did find the right strategy near the end in zerging Spoh, what do you think went wrong in the final match?

Lycra: The final match we did the same thing but Azael just peeled way more.

CP: A little bit of RNG came into play as well, but they still played great so im not trying to take anything away from them. One of the things that happened was I shadow step kidney shotted spoh in caster and it was dodged.

Jasi: Yikes, that's a huge dodge.

Lycra: Yeah, it really is. On that final match when it was 2v2 rogue/warrior(FD) vs druid/rogue(GGE) I believe RNG was in their favor.  I 5 point kidney shotted the warrior but he RESISTED and if he would of trinketed i would of blinded.....  He just had to trinket because I would get away and help Sodah out and he could of gotten a few ticks off. I really feel that if we had a Mage on the rostor though, we could have won.

Jasi: What would you have done differently if you could replay the matches?

Lycra: Stay on spoh the entire game instead of rushing down the rogue like game 1&2, and playing much more aggressively in general.

Jasi: Being that this was your first LAN experience, what were your initial impressions of the live scene versus playing at home?

CP: Playing live is very fun, it is great to meet the other players. Most of the people at MLG were very fun to be around.

Lycra: At first I was very nervous but at the end I got use to it. It was great to meet some of the players we have been playing with and against.

Jasi: Did you run into any of the more "E-Famous" players such as Serennia, Inactive, Neilyo, Noktyn or Hafu/Glickz?

Lycra: I thought serennia would be rambling his mouth talking crap but he was quiet... I thought the same with neilyo but he was a very nice person and gave me FREE TIPZ. After we beat SK gaming Serennia didn't want to talk to anybody and that was poor sportsmanship on his part.  Neilyo on the other hand had GREAT sportsmanship compared to serenniaLOL.

CP: I had a great shot with me and Nokytyn after the match.

Noktyn and Psycho

Lycra: I also thought ming was lying about the Hafu/Glick relationship but I really guess he wasn't. It's VERY REAL. It seemed hafu would want to kiss Glickz but he would just turn away LOL.

Glorin was probably one of the most down to earth people though.  Even with serennia raging on him he kept his cool.

Was Inactive the kevin federline looking kid with the BIG WHITE TEE? I actually never met him. He was with his little "I AINT GOT NO NERD SPONSOR" entourage.

Jasi: So now that you successfully downed the majority of BG9's best teams, what do you think about all the hype? It seems like it's time to encourage sponsors to look elsewhere...

Lycra:I think its all mods now days honestly. Sodah/cyberpsycho and I have been playing without mods on the TR.

CP: Yeah I'm honestly not that impressed with bg9.

Jasi: So you both feel that BG9 is mostly comprised of players carried by mods?

CP: No matter what battle group you go to you will find great teams and players.

Lycra: Well if DGFG had mods they would definitely be in the top spots honestly.  They are some of the greatest players I have ever seen.  It is just hard to counterspell without focus frames or ANYTHING.  Celex even admitted to us that without mods it was hard for him to do anything. He is the greatest mage I have ever faced... I think once you get use to mods it is just hard to play without them.

Jasi: Thanks for the interview, and good luck in future tournaments.

The second picture of noktyn and cp defines this phrase: "Life must be hard as a pro-gamer."

Jasi, you really should have interrogated these guys harder and asked them these questions:

1) Do you think the game is fine in its current state that a team like yourselves can run a combo that uses 2 of the same classes with a druid healer and succeed?

2) What is your team's opinion on the serious lack of any paladin healers or resto shaman healers at MLG? And what about the lack of priest healers with exception to PMR and teams that had, well, druids themselves on it?

3) Do you think druids need to be nerfed? If so, what would be your team's recommendation on possible nerfs?

4) Is cyclone over the top or is it just the HoTs?

Sorry to sound like a jackass but it was pretty evident that druids were the way to go when every team except for three used a druid. It was also pretty sad how badly pandemic got rolled. Clearly, their use of a paladin healer and their lack of use of a druid healer killed them.
