It is a good post because it has a comprehensive list of all of the classes/compositions on every tournament realm.
Alef cites every single composition in the top 20, but for analytical purposes, here's what everyone here at Gameriot needs to look at:
35 Priests
30 Druids
28 Rogues
22 Warriors
19 Mages
16 Locks
7 Hunters
7 Shamans
1 pally

Incidentally, that 1 paladin is actually retribution in a resto druid/hunter/ret paladin combo. Which, looking at it from a strategical standpoint, sounds completely awful.
The shocking thing about the class representation is that there are less paladins than shamans. HUH?
How is that possible? On live, I don't see any shamans, period. Zero. None. Nada.
Looks like season 2 has a lot of benefits for shamans because a lot of paladins don't have the significant pve gear advantage that they do on live. (Or something..)
Some of the paladin nerfs in TBC
-Illumination nerfed from 100% mana back on a critical heal to 60%.
-Blessing of Sacrifice cooldown increased from 0 second cooldown to 30 second cooldown.
-Blessing of Freedom cooldown increased from 20 seconds to 25.
-Guardian's Favor increases duration of Blessing of Freedom by 2/4 instead of 3/6.
-Blessing of Protection: This spell can no longer be cast on others when stunned. It can only be cast on self (to break the stun) under those circumstances.
Some of the paladin buffs in TBC
-Holy shock heal increased dramatically.
-4 piece set bonus for arena healing set changed to grant +30% healing on holy shock.
-Turn Evil implemented. (Can fear pets with a 1.5 second cast time)
It begs the question, were all of these changes necessary? Granted, a hefty majority of the big changes were done a long, long time ago. Not all of them were done in the outset of the paladin-dominated season 1.
It also begs the question, was season 1 really a season where paladins were just so obscenely broken or were just the easiest class to utilize when everyone was still wearing terrible blue gear and didn't realize quite yet that interrupting a paladin is easy?
It is absolutely appalling that the one class that was once so highly praised is now universally considered the worst class in the game. Not the worst healing class, not the worst damage class, but the worst class in the game.
How is it possible that the very significant buff to Holy Shock last patch did nothing to increase paladin representation?
My holy shock went from a 1400 heal pre-patch to a 2250-2300 heal post-patch.
It certainly didn't seem to help the already abysmal paladin representation.
Paladins have always been considered a joke of a class. I recall at Blizzcon last year when everyone was laughing when Tom Chilton (or someone else, i forget) was introducing every class with a brief overview of what each class' description was. "And here we have the Paladin, a hybrid that can deal damage as well as heal and tank". The roaring laughter was a pretty big turnoff because everyone, including the Blizzard staff, knew the class was a complete joke.
Ask yourself this: was my constant whining for the past 10 months about how bad the paladin class was misplaced? Or was there some truth to my constant bickering?

There are a few shadow priests.
What are you trying to say? That paladins are equatable to offspeccs? What paladin specc do we have that gives us a shot at real cash?
The point is, every class has a specc that can compete. Do paladins have any speccs that can compete?

Ret. (LOL). if the title said 0 paladins in the top 20 it would be a different ball game though.

or maybe paladins are slowly turning into a dps class into arena? I understand the emoness that there's only one paladin and it clearly points out how unbalanced arena is. how anyone can take wow serious is beyond me.

This pretty much states that paladins are useless as ANY spec in this ENTIRE bracket.
Kaeroth May 18, 2008 at 3:44 pm

Clearly, there are no paladins because they are just like Prot warriors or Feral druids.

You're comparing an entire class to a talent tree. Every other class has some spec they can be competitive with.

Great article. You've answered you're question though before as to why pallys aren't well represented in arena: Utility. Aside from healing/positioning a pally ability cannot drastically change the flow of an arena match in a positive manner. To more of a point, pallys posses no offensive utility and posses no danger if left unnoticed, where as a priest can mana burn, a druid can cc, and a shaman can completely disrupt casters and dump decent damage.

Its pretty clear why Shaman and Pallies have no representation. This is because the other classes(druid/priest) have so many more utilities. Why would you choose a Shaman or Pally when you can have classes with offensive and defensive dispel, mana burn, heavy CC, hots, and is overall more survivable in every aspect of the game. They are just better off in arena and should get hit with the nerf bat along with Rogues and Mages.

Holy pallys are ok.. the problem is that they are countercomp'ed by replacing them with a resto druid in whatever team they were in. With so many resto druid teams on the TR pallys are coutnercomped almost 100% of the games. Another common countercomp of pallys is priest/mage/rogue..
To improve them I'd say they need 2 instant cast healing abilties with 5-25 second cooldowns, and 2 spammable zero cooldowns abilties comparable to purge/manaburn/cyclone/roots/etc that gives them something to do when they dont need to cast heals.

They should probably remove paladins from the game. That would actually just be hilarious.

I'm sure this only strugling paladin will not stay in top 20 for long
I'll make the same list at the end of the qualifiers when armory is locked.

we don't know the shaman's specs. There are Elems, Enhanc, i think there is one or 2 with a healing spec.

The shadow damage teams (including rogue + shadow damage) play resto, the druid/warr teams play enhance or resto. No elemental.

A paladin with nothing to heal or cleanse is a paladin doing nothing, and thats why Paladins are garbage.

Having to cast everything and having no really powerful tools to make the other team under pressure is what make paladins so bad.
Shamans are more sucessful, despite their endless crying, because SHAMANS HAVE ENOUGH OFENSIVE SUPPORT TO MAKE THE OTHER TEAM SCREW UP WITH THEIR SPELL LOCKS. It's basically that.
A shaman dropping agressive totems, bloodlust, and offensive-shocking will put pressure on the enemy team, while freedom and sacrifice are the only "Support" abilities a paladin have, and both became WEAK against what they were meant to counter (Melee with freedom on a mage? Oh wait, dispelled or spellstolen).
So in the end, both paladin and shaman healing is subpar and need a serious review, but shaan's other abilities make people freak out ("Oh crap I just got windfury double crit by that Lusted warrior, then my poly got shocked then grounded then shocked then warrior is back on me") thus allowing em to cast a lot more heals than expected.
