I've been fighting for it for a while now and this event I was finally allowed to bring players up to the casting stage for commentary. Unfortunately, I was only able to get people who were not competing in actual matches (don't ask me, red tape). So I was able to get up Xantims and Kagril for two different matches, one yesterday and one today. Of course not at the same time, although I think that would be cool to do for a game; just have two players cast the matches.

Anyway, I thought it went well overall. I like having players who are active in the community talk about the games because they represent the community more than I or any other caster ever will, at least until we get a retired generation of players. Its also great for me to be able to bounce my thoughts off of knowledgeable people. Then again, I also don't want to turn the stream into pure analysis.

The best stream is going to be a mix of good action play-by-play and intelligent color commentary, but as things stand the client limitations and technical issues are severely hamering both of those things. Especially the play-by-play. I won't go into a lot of detail as to why but suffice to say that both players I had up were completely boggled as certain times during the fights. They agreed it would be much easier to cast the game from a first person perspective rather than the gimped floaty cam that is the current situation.

But I'd really like to hear what people were watching it thought. I'd like to know who would be interested in commenting on games. I feel like we're moving in the right direction in regards to the stream, but we've still got a long way to go. In the future we will probably be doing player interviews rather than shoutcasting, but that will give players ample opportunity to analyze the matches and offer their opinions.

I am intensely committed to making the stream be a quality production, and while their are a slew of things I can't fix, the are are a lot of things I can. I hope the stream continues to get constructive feedback, between myself, the WSVG, and the community we can make this great.

I'd be more interested in "sideline interviews" to answer some of the questions that come up from the lack of info you have to work with. Also when someone says something like, "I don't know why they're going after him first." or "I don't get why they chose this comp." - then you write that down and find out in between matches. I know it's hard with the schedule and such, but **** that make it happen:D

Having a couple split screens that allow the shoutcasters to see from first person of everyone playing in the match as well as the current camera screen would probably be a big help.

If someone is getting focused, or moves away from the middle of the fight it would allow you to get a quick view of what's happening to that person or what they're trying to accomplish. Also some form of Spell Alert on these First person windows for shoutcasters to help them spot buff gains/debuff applications etc. would probably be a great idea. The challenge would be preventing it form cluttering the screen too much while being easily visible.

I feel, when watching the stream, the biggest current limitation for me watching and understanding is the name differences. Currently names are, from what I have heard, randomly generated and that needs to be changed.

Agreed, you should pick your name at sign up and have to keep it for the tournament. If you play multiple characters have them add something like "x" or "lol" on the end for the second, third etc. characters

Yea that is a limitation from Blizzard.  They have still not rectified it.  I am not involved with the client UI directly but basically there is very little support for the game as a competitive game in terms of watching.  I hope that they are in the works to make a patch that would add a whole bunch of this stuff to the client so people could watch like HLTV.  If they arent the game is going to suffer from a spectator POV and could end up being the downfall of the game in the long run.

Keep in mind WoW was never developed to be a PvP game in the same fashion as say Guild Wars.  They have only recently made changes to bring more PvP into the game as whole (well over the last year or so) but it still has a long way to go.  Not sure how long people will put up with it especially if something else comes down the pipe.  Perhaps Warhammer will have a good pvp aspect since they have help up dev for so long on it.  But who know?

I'll most likely be in LA WSVG with EG and not playing. So I'd be up for it! I also agree should cast from player point of view rather than overall playing field. Although I like what they did at Blizzcon. Feature a PoV from one team on one screen, another PoV from the other team on another screen and the typical overall view of the entire playing field on the middle screen.

Honestly, you and the other people who play WoW a good lot are obviously the best commentators, due to the fact that people who know a flying **** about this game are better to shoutcast at it this level, and any level.

I would say that the shoutcasting has gotten waaaay better, and before people start criticizing, think about SC shoutcasting when it was first released, to its current state now where those Koreans take it like ****in football.

I think it worked out VERY well, I was very impressed with it and I think with that type of commentary the new Blizzard 2.2 UI, it will be a lot easier to present as an E-Sport. Your guest commentators did great and I think it is definitely something you should include from this point on. (No offense to you guys at all, I think you guys do great jobs also)

Hopefully I won't be bored out of my mind watching WoW casting now that it's improved, it really plagued the WSVG casts in the previous events.

I would be interested in shoutcasting a few games maybe if you allow people during the finals at DreamHack in Sweden. Though I'd have to practise it a bit. :P

It would be cool to try out shoutcast a game or two. :P
