Zuggy's World of Warcraft Gold Making Guide

Make 200g+ / Hour And See How I've Made Over 30,000!

Drysc made a quick post today concerning how a team will be
considered eligible for the end of season arena awards.

While the date
for the end of Season 2 has not yet been announced, we wanted to let everyone
know beforehand about a change to the requirements for a team to be counted
towards the total teams considered for the end of season rewards.

Our goal with this change is to remove teams from being
counted that could not already be eligible for the end of season rewards. By
not counting them we’re effectively limiting the pool of teams that are added
up before calculating the final 0.5% for the end of season rewards.

The requirements for a team to be counted (both requirements
must be met):

  • The team must have
played at least 20 games during the season.

  • The team must have at
least one player that has played in 20% or more of the total games for
    that team.

As the requirement to be eligible for the
end of season rewards is also 20% participation for the entire season, this
overlap merely ensures that teams that have active and eligible members will be
counted.”

For teams that have been active this really doesn’t concern them,
however it does severely limit the number of teams calculated towards the total
number of players for each battlegroup. In the case of Reckoning, gladiator
titles would have been awarded to the top 165 teams for 2v2, top 80 for 3v3,
and top 40 for 5v5.

If
that many teams achieved the rank of gladiator, well it sure wouldn’t mean all
that much. Certainly this puts a lot more pressure on teams that were on the
bubble. In addition, reducing the number of teams that gain the gladiator title
will further add to the prestige of the title.

I wonder how many teams will actually be disqualified. The only teams that it really applies to are bought teams where nobody on the team has 20% played. /shrug

It will affect more teams than you think.  Because of all the abandoned 1400 rated 2v2 teams laying around on alts the total number of teams in a battlegroup (as far as calculations are concerned) is going to be reduced.  Instead of the top 165 teams getting the end of season awards it could be half of that.  Not only will less teams be getting rewarded at the end of the season but calculating the actual number of teams receiving the awards will be nearly impossible.  Before, you could just find the lowest rated arena team in the bracket, see what their Rank was and multiply by 0.5. Now you have to guess.

I think this is a good change overall.  High level arena competition can become very stagnant at the end of a season because people find out what rank they need, achieve said rank, and play the waiting game.  Now, unless you are in the top 20 you better keep playing because it would really suck to miss a netherdrake and a title by 1 game.

It won't be half for sure. Even if those abandoned teams still have one person with at least 20%, they'll still be counted. I really don't think it will make a big difference at all really.

makes sense because of how easy it was to get gladiator in 2v2, except now there's no way to be sure that you're going to going to get gladiator past the topish spots.

At least on Reckoning top 0.5% for 2v2 last season was 67, 35 for 3v3, and 18 for 5v5. I'd expect it be a bit higher than that, but not far off. Maybe to 100 for 2v2, 50 for 3v3, and 30 for 5v5, though those are just my estimations.

Yeah it's a real shame they implemented these changes at short notice but the only good thing to come out of it is that you really have to play for the title now to make sure of it :)
