Huge performance consumption with Firefox

I'm not sure what's causing it but over the last few days when viewing certain Gameriot pages (not all, however) my Firefox CPU usage shoots up to 95+% and completely slows down my computer.  It immediately drops back down once I close the Gameriot pages.

I haven't noticed anything specific in the posts that would cause it.  Maybe it's one of the ads or something?

I hope not :( Though the site is running a bit slow for me at the moment with WoW/Photoshop/Imageready and about 30 tabs open. Austin will look into this i'm sure!:D

Get the old version of Firefox.  Part of the issue is that the new version sucks.  Get away from 2.0 and you'll be good.

Firefox is a huge memory ***** as it is.  The processor stuff is probably the AJAX or the parallel calls to server to load external files.  We are still tweaking and minimizing our files as much as possible to make things as small as possible.

I know if you have some plugins there are more memory/proc usage associated with those and depending on what they do depends on how much.  For me I have like 4 different dev plugins installed that eat up a ton of memory and processor.  I will check on some of my other machines to see if I can pinpoint something.

I know there could be issues with loading the comments.  These are loaded in tandem after the initial page loads so on huge comment lists you are not waiting 5 minutes for the comments to come up.  I am still tweaking the loading to make it as streamlined as possible.  Just takes time.

I will post if I find anything specific.

On a side note... with the update or some key items over the last week or so all the major browsers should work fine even Safari 3 for windows works.  So if you are having issues still you can use something like Opera or Safari until we find the problem (assuming it can be fixed directly).

TBH, I think it has to do with one of the side page Fury ads. o.o  I'll keep track a bit longer but the last 4-5 times it happened that was one of the ads.  The one with the single male character and the flag waving in the background.

It very will could be because they are flash.  I am still doing some testing and I have not been able to narrow it down to any specific set of code yet.

Hmm, I'm running Flashmute which might be having problems with it, although I've never had it happen anywhere else.  Does the ad play sound?

He is correct.  I have sent in a request and I hope they have someone that knows what they are doing recreate the banner in flash.  A flash banner should not completely take over a processor.
